We’re coming down to the end of the year, and in the midst of all the holiday planning and celebrating, something else that happens around this time of the year at our house is BUDGETING. Big time! Because in January, we suddenly feel a lot richer around here…due to our tax return and bonuses that both my hubby and I receive at our jobs! (And I say “richer” in jest…because some of you, I’m sure, would laugh at what we term that as!) Either way, it’s more money than we normally have, and, lest we be irresponsible, we start this time of year making a plan and a budget for those funds.
Normally somewhere on the budget is a large home improvement project. (Home improvement, or, sometimes in our case, it ends up as a house demolition project – HA!) Last year it was having the house painted. The year before that, it was having the back yard fenced in. We haven’t decided on what this year’s project will be as of yet. I would LOVE for it to be some new wood flooring! But I have a feeling it’s going to end up being a new air conditioning unit…which, living in Florida, I am also okay with! HA!
However, during all of our home improvement discussions, we are always trying to figure out: which projects add to the value of our home? And which projects are even worth doing?!
So when Thomas contacted me to see if I was interested in an infographic on remodeling projects that increase the value of a home, boy, was that some perfect timing! Great info in this one! Here’s what Thomas had to say…
Did you know that replacing vinyl siding on your home will on average cost you $12,013 while increasing the resale value of your home by $9,694? As a home owner, you may be interested in knowing approximately how much a specific remodeling project will cost and what you can expect to recoup once you sell your house again. If you know you’re more likely to get the money back you spent on a remodel, you’ll probably also be more likely to want to undertake the project.
To give you a better understanding of which kinds of remodeling will be worth the money, Contractor Quotes has made the infographic 14 Remodel Projects That Increase Home Value. By studying it, you’ll see that replacing a garage door will increase the value of your home by almost as much as the cost of the project, while you’ll see that you may not recoup as high a percentage of your costs by making additions to your home. On top of that, the infographic also goes through the most important things to be aware of with the different projects. This infographic will hopefully help you make up your mind next time you’re considering upgrading your home.
Oh boy. I guess some remodels don’t pay off as much as I thought they did! (Well, in the end, maybe. You can be sure they definitely pay off for the family who is requesting them at the time!) For instance, I really love parking in my garage…so adding a new door to it would be HIGHLY beneficial for me either way! HA!
Thanks so much for sharing with us, Thomas!
Was YOUR next home improvement project listed in the infographic? If it wasn’t, do you you know how much of it’s cost you will be able to recoup once it’s complete?
