The Summer Holiday Shelf!

According the calendar, it’s now summer! Well…it’s been summer for a while now – but I’m not as quick on the draw as I used to be, that’s for sure! All I know is, school is out, the temps are rising, and I am officially the hottest pregnant-with-twins-woman who has ever been on the face of the planet pregnant with twins. I really am. In fact, what’s the hottest planet? Is it Mars? Maybe THAT’S the face of the planet I’m on. I’m HOT, y’all. I KNOW it’s summer!

So, if it’s summer, then of course, it’s time for me to reveal my Summer Holiday Shelf! Here we go…

The more shelf designs I do, the more I think that simple is best. But I love how this one pops with the yellow, black and white!

The lemons may or may not be my tribute to all things lemons. That has been one of my strongest cravings throughout pregnancy: lemon-flavored ANYTHING!

The cute printable I found on Pinterest (CLICK HERE), and the frame? Well, let me tell you about the frame.

The frame comes from a company called Trades of Hope. Have you heard of it?

So many women live in poverty, not because they lack abilities, but because they lack opportunity. Trades of Hope was started to give women that opportunity for a better life. Each woman has a story, and with Trades of Hope’s help, their story has changed from pain and struggle to a story of hope!

The folks at Trades of Hope work with the artisans themselves and organizations that are helping women in difficult circumstances. Some women have been rescued from sex slavery. Others are raising handicapped children alone. Some are in war torn countries and others have aids and leprosy. These women have never had the chances we’ve had, yet they are just like us in so many ways. They love their families and hope and dream of a better life for them.

Trades of Hope helps by marketing their products (like this frame!) through the home party model, so they can put food on their table, a roof over their head, get medical care and an education for their children. Isn’t that amazing?! I heard about this company through my sweet friend Liz, who works with them and shares their jewelry, scarves, handbags, stationary, home decor and more, all hand-crafted by artisan women in Guatemala, India, Uganda, Haiti, Costa Rica, Bangladesh, the United States, Cambodia, Peru, the Philippines, Nepal, Jordan, Thailand, Columbia and Kenya!

I threw in this yellow vase because I had it, and I love that it was the same yellow as the lemons! I decided to fill it with some simple white flowers…

…and there ya have it!

What do you think?

Of course, what’s hanging on the door right next to the shelf doesn’t match it at all…

…but it’s patriotic, and it’s one of my favorite pieces! I had to display it!

  1. Decorating, in the heat of the summer, I don’t think so! Especially since my A.C is not working and I have only one lonely fan to keep me from expiring from the heat! I do love your shelf–love the lemon yellows and black and white combo!

  2. These are very lovely decor! I really like the summer feel. I love a company that is behind a good cause , just like Trades of Hope! It’s good to know that women the world over are given a chance to make a living, a decent one at that too. I hope a lot of people support this company.

    • Hey Elizabeth! I love your name! 😉 I am doing my best to spread the word about Trades of Hope to others! It creates a huge ripple effect! When one person shops and buys something it’s fantastic- it might provide a mom with a days pay for food, but when someone hosts a party, several others learn about it and then they might have their own parties where their friends will learn about it too…and so on and so on! We are creating waves of change in the poverty ocean when we buy their products and hosts parties! And when someone joins Trades of Hope as a compassionate entrepreneur, not only does it support a host of other women and their families, it helps create work for women here in America like me who want to be able to stay at home with their kids!
