The Benefits of Polished Concrete Flooring

Some time ago, before we moved into our home, there was a bit of water damage in our Master Bedroom. We’ve now been in the house for 3 years, and have never seen any kind of leak or seepage anywhere in the house, so I’m not sure where the issue was to start out with. But I know it affected one particular board of the wood flooring in that room. Yeah, we saw it when we bought the house, but we didn’t think it was that big of a deal.

Today, that one messed up board has off-set the rest of the flooring in our Master Bedroom. Everything has shifted a bit over the past three years, and what we didn’t think was that big of a deal now is a bit bigger, for sure. I threatened to my husband the other day that one day he would come home and find that I had just torn up the flooring in that room. He laughed…and then turned around to check and make sure that I was joking. Some days, I must admit, I think it would be much easier to do it and be done with it! And replace it with…some polished concrete!

As a matter of fact, I haven’t ruled out polished concrete as a flooring option anywhere in our home. Yet. Because I like what it has to offer! So when James from  Midland Flooring contacted me about his infographic touting the benefits of polished concrete flooring, well – I didn’t NEED more fuel for my fire, but it was good stuff! See what you think!

I LOVE the fact that you can stain and dye your polished concrete floors, too! The possibilities are endless!

Oh, here are some pictures so you can visualize it along with me!

  2. Kristen, thanks for explaining the benefits of polished concrete flooring. I didn’t realize that it is an environmentally friendly material. I also like that it requires very little maintenance. It seems like it can be a great material to use in your home. I am only curious to know if it will ever need to be repolished, and how often.

  3. Thank you for helping me understand the benefits that come with polished concrete flooring. I really like how you said that polished concrete is durable and can last a long time against many years of foot traffic. I have never had polished concrete before but I can imagine how helpful it can be when it comes to durability and low maintenance.

Btw, you can also get equal benefits with epoxy flooring for garage floors, basement, interior floors etc. It is highly durable and easy to maintain.

Thanks for this info. Keep posting! 🙂

  5. This is some great information, and I appreciate your point that polished concrete is low maintenance and easy to clean. My husband and I have decided to convert our garage into some extra living space, and we’re trying to decide what we want to do with the floor. We’d prefer somethings that’s easy to clean and keep in good condition, so we’ll definitely look into just having the concrete that’s already there polished. Thanks for the great post!

  6. I love the thought of polished concrete throughout the home. I really dislike carpet, and have really bad dust allergies. Great infographic, thanks for sharing!

  7. That’s awesome that polished concrete has low maintenance, is durable, and aesthetically pleasing. I think it also gives a more professional appearing. It seems like a wonderful choice for commercial buildings.

  8. After looking into options for flooring in my house, I am intrigued by polished concrete flooring. I love that is would be low maintenance and easy to clean since I don’t have much time to devote to that anyways. It sounds like it will last a very long time and mean that I won’t have to redo my floors should I have water damage or something like that.

  9. That’s really cool that the surface actually is not slippery. Like you mentioned, I always thought a polished surface was slick and could be bad. I’ll have to talk to a contractor and see if this is an option for me. Thanks for the info!

  10. A friend of mine has been thinking about getting new flooring, but we weren’t sure how polished concrete would help us out. It’s interesting that you say that it’s actually very eco-friendly! Since we are trying to be better to the earth, it would be nice to get something that is better.

  11. My brother recently moved into an older home with his family. He is wanting some updates done throughout the house, but he wants to start with the floors. I didn’t realize polished concrete is extremely low maintenance by only requiring periodic cleaning with soap and water. I’ll be sure my brother is aware of this option.

  12. I had no idea that concrete flooring is less slippery than marble and linoleum when clean and dry. I can see why this would be something to keep in mind if you are concerned with slipping. My parents are wanting to remodel their kitchen this summer. I’ll have to point this out to them to help them in choosing the best floor.
