Did you know that half of all dogs are now diagnosed with cancer at some point in their life? Anyone who has ever lost a dog will tell you of the heartache and bereavement they felt at the passing of their beloved ‘family member’. When we last our Taffy girl early last year, we knew it was only a matter of time until we opened our family to another canine.
After a few months, we visited a local animal control location and took home a new family member. This is Trixie!
She actually looks kinda small in this photo, but Trixie is an almost-80-pound pure-bred Chocolate Labrador Retriever. She is literally our third toddler. (Because why not?!) And her health is just as important to us as any other member of our family.
Chemical cleaners sure do the job, but they can also be abrasive on your hands and respiratory system. In most cases they also aren’t necessary, we have just become so reliant on them to keep our homes clean. This habit can be bad for our health but also for the environment.
Every once in a while, I deviate from the normal “domestic” agenda here on the blog. Today is one of those days. Let’s talk about beauty products! And you know what, maybe it’s not that much of a deviation at all, right? What domestic superhero doesn’t deserve to be pampered now and again, right?!
Did you know that typical beauty, skincare, and makeup products expose you to hundreds of chemicals on a daily basis? It may come as a shocker to find out that the products we rely on every day can cause serious health hazards due to these chemicals. Many research studies suggest that chemicals in beauty products can cause neurological damage as well as cancer.
Since the skin is the largest organ of the human body, just imagine how many chemicals it can absorb on a day to day basis. If that sounds terrifying, it’s time to make a change.
As far as I’m concerned, there is no BAD time for a piece of chocolate. Wouldn’t you agree?
I don’t, however, indulge very often, because chocolate isn’t all that great for you. Now, I’m not a healthy example for the masses, but I DO try to eat good things, and if I “indulge” in the bad ones, I make sure it doesn’t happen all that often.
But, thankfully, I’ve been introduced to something sweet that doesn’t fit the usual mold! It’s called Blissfully Better Chocolate.
Made in small batches and handcrafted in copper kettles, Blissfully Better’s Toffee, Caramel & Coconut Thins are the perfect indulgence. Certified Organic and sweetened only with low glycemic coconut nectar, their confections literally are Blissfully Better for you and your taste buds!
I’ve been talking about what I call “soup weather” here on the blog – have you noticed? This time of the year is when I really adore a bowl of hot soup! There’s something so comforting and happy about soup, don’t you think?
So when Lainie from Boulder Foods informed me that January was National Soup Month, it all made sense! Now, I had not previously heard of Boulder Foods until Laine contacted me, but she shared all about their certified organic, gluten-free and Non-GMO soup’s tasty line-up:
Butternut Squash with Sage
Roasted Tomato Basil
Red Lentil Dahl
Cuban Black Bean
Green Chile Corn Chowder
Golden Quinoa and Kale
Chicken Quinoa & Kale
Chicken Vegetable Chili
Are you hungry yet?!
Now, I must admit, I was a bit hesitant with these soups at first. I mean, really, how GOOD could soups found in the refrigerated deli section actually BE?
Well, Boulder has proved my hesitancy completely unnecessary!
Boulder Organic Foods was founded in 2006 by Kate Brown, who had a vision to craft “oh my gosh!” good food using garden-fresh ingredients. Boulder Organic soups are made in small batches and are certified organic, certified gluten-free and non-GMO verified. They are sold in the deli refrigerated section at grocers nationwide – please check the locator for a retailer near you!
I went by my local Fresh Market to see what Boulder soups they had to offer, and came home with a Roasted Tomato Basil and a Garden Minestrone – YUMMY! I decided to pair them up with a couple slices of cornbread.
