Decorating Tips to Spruce up Your Home for Christmas – A Guest Post!

Well, we’re close, folks! Thanksgiving is just over a week away, and I want to make sure you stop by on Friday for TONS of resources to help you out with your plans for the big day! But, since we’re pretty close to another holiday soon after, I wanted to whet your appetite for a little bit of Christmas, too! So when Marie Nieves contacted me and asked if she could share some tips on prepping your home for Christmas, well, that was just perfect! So, here she is!

Ho ho ho! Christmas is getting seriously close – are you ready for it? I don’t mean getting your holiday groove on – is your HOME jolly enough for this jolly occasion? You don’t want to disappoint Santa when he walks in for his milk and cookies! It is about time to decorate your home for the holiday, and that venture should go way beyond simply decorating the Christmas tree, while not crossing the line of over-the-top holiday kitsch. Instead of mixing all the sparkly things together, for years back, I have two basic colour palettes for Christmas which I never combine: blue-silver and gold-red. Here are my tips to make your home welcoming this holiday season.

The 2015 Ornament Exchange – And a Keepsake Ornament Tutorial!

I know, I know, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, right? No worries, I’m not trying to usher in an early Christmas or anything, I just wanted to share a little something to whet your appetite for Christmas crafting in the soon-to-come future!

And there’s no better way to do that than by participating in the 2015 Ornament Exchange!

Ornament-Exchange-1-683x1024

Today is actually day nine of this year’s festivities, and with more than 80 bloggers participating, it’s been a blast so far, and there’s even more fun to come! Bottom line: if this is the year you’re finally going to hand-craft some ornaments for family, friends, or even your own tree, you shall not lack inspiration!

Here’s how it works: all participating bloggers have been paired up with a partner. We’ve all been in contact with each other, and were allowed a budget of $10 to create or buy an ornament to exchange!

Oh, and that’s not all! ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14, A FABULOUS LINK-UP WILL GO LIVE WHERE ALL OF YOU CAN LINK UP YOUR OWN ORNAMENT TUTORIALS! Stop back by for that!

I was partnered with the talented Emily from Simply Home Love (check out her blog if you’re not a regular over there already – you’ll love it!) and after chatting a bit, she shared with me that she likes clean lines and red, gray and white. Perfect! My plan was to head for Michael’s with the intention of crafting an ornament, but if I couldn’t make that work, I knew I could use the ornament exchange’s fall-back of purchasing a pre-made one! Fortunately, the crafting powers that be were working in my favor!

I knew I couldn’t be as flashy as my normal taste would be because she preferred clean lines. And I really wanted to make an ornament to celebrate her blog! If you know anything about women bloggers (especially moms like Emily) we juggle SO much to keep our blogs alive and well! Our blogs are a HUGE part of our daily life, and yet, although I have ornaments that celebrate various other parts of my daily life, I have nothing that celebrates my blog – and I was betting on the fact that Emily didn’t, either.

So…allow me to present: A Keepsake Ornament Tutorial!

Fall Holiday Shelf! (With a Couple of New Decorations and a FREE PRINTABLE!)

So far this year, you’ve journeyed along with me as I tested five new Fall recipes (CLICK HERE IF YOU MISSED THAT AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT NOW), and you’ve seen the outside of our home all decorated for Fall! (CLICK HERE IF YOU MISSED THAT AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT NOW!)

I’ve had a few people ask me about the decor around the inside of the house, and specifically: the Holiday Shelf!

For those who are new around here, my Holiday Shelf is my weak attempt at pretending I have a mantle. Here in Florida, we don’t have too many fireplaces, meaning we don’t have too many mantels, meaning I can’t decorate a mantel for all the seasons and holidays that I enjoy decorating for. So I’ve substituted a shelf in our foyer for that…and the Holiday Shelf was born!

Anyhoo, this is old hat to most of you – so, may I present to you, the 2015 Fall Holiday Shelf!

I know, I know what you’re thinking already. BLACK AND GOLD?! What on earth! Those aren’t FALL colors!

Well, here’s the thing. I’ve been itching to do some kind of decorating with black and gold for a while now, so I decided that now was as good a time as any. And mainly because…I found THIS:

RV Camping Trip Essentials – A Guest Post!

The following is an actual conversation between my husband and I:

Me: I’m not going camping.
J: Well, why not?!
Me: Um, birds and snakes and ants and bears and other insects…just a few reasons for ya.
J: We should do a test run!
Me: A test run?
J: A pitch-a-tent-in-the-backyard test run!
Me: Jerrod, I’m not going camping.
J: In the backyard!!!
Me: Jerrod, I’m not going camping. My foot is down. Actually, both my feet are down. No camping.
Jerrod: But we already have a fire pit in the backyard and everything!
Me: And you know what? I already have a bed INSIDE the house. I’m not going camping.
J: You never want to do ANYTHING FUN!

Perhaps that conversation didn’t go the way he wanted it to because he used the word TENT and not the word RV. I’m just sayin’. If “camping” could look something like this…

…then I’d be a bit more up for tagging along!

Well…apparently, it CAN, according to John from Smooth Decorator! He’s here today to give us some RV camping trip essentials! Take it away, John!

RV camping trips are an excellent activity for a summer holiday: you’ll get to spend more time outdoors, explore new areas and possibly even meet new people. But in some cases, things can get out of hand on the go, which is why it is vital to have all the gear necessary for the trip packed in advance and ready for use. To help you stay on top of RV camping essentials, we have a short list of items and gizmos you should definitely have at hand during your summer adventure.

    1. Please take some time to poke around and visit some of the other links.

    1. Please take some time to check out your hosts and co-hosts on social media.

    1. We appreciate the variety of blogs on the www; however, the Home Matters Party is for links on matters of the HOME. Please link accordingly.

    1. On the same note, please do not add links of an extremist, political or strong controversial nature. (The hosts and co-hosts read each and every blog post linked, and will contact you directly if you have linked something that does not fit into the realm of the party.)

With your help, we can continue to grow the Home Matters Party! Thank you!
