I LOVE having a guest room.
I like when people stay with us. I like to be able to help out for a couple days and provide someone with a comfy place to stay. We’ve had friends, family and perfect strangers stay with us in our guest room, from all across the United States, and even folks from Canada and Africa! Now, it’s hard to provide someone with a QUIET place at my house these days (cue twin 1-year-olds). But comfy I can do!
After all, top hospitality residences understand the true meaning of creating comfortable and cozy guest rooms. An inviting guest room not only makes visitors feel welcome and comfortable, but it also gives homeowners a satisfying feeling, too.
Creating welcoming guest rooms doesn’t necessarily need to break the bank. Explore the following top design tips you can use to create cozy rooms for visitors.
Offer Luxurious & Comfortable Beds
The bed is the most significant area to help your guests get a good night’s rest. Visitors shouldn’t be given the oldest mattress in the home. Get a quality mattress that is supple and have quality bedsheets and a mattress cover to complement it.
Ensure that your guests get fresh linens. In addition to these items, top the bed with a cozy comforter and pillows covered in fresh pillowcases.
Just under a week until Thanksgiving, my FAVORITE holiday! Are you ready?!
I’m hitting the “excited” stretch now. I’ve been looking down the barrel of “I have WAY too much to get done before Thanksgiving” for a few weeks now, but at this point, I think I’m fairly set! And I’m here to share a few helps with you so you can be fairly set, too!
My parents are in town for a week and a half, so of course, I needed to make sure my house was ready for them!
Here’s how to make sure YOU are ready for house guests, too!
Most people seem to think I have it all together. This is hilarious to me, because I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT. Not even a little! I think that’s one reason why I never allow myself to stop and take a break, because there’s always something I can see that needs to be accomplished!
I have learned something, though. Even though I can look around and see things that need to be accomplished, it’s okay to not get everything completed at the same time! Easy does it! So I just thought I’d do a post today to encourage those who feel overwhelmed with all there is to do around their homes. It’s okay! You don’t have to do it all at once! Easy does it! Just go little by little! Let me show you what I mean: here are three things I did in three different rooms of my house that made a difference…and were cost-effective and EASY!
1. I added curtains to the sliding glass doors in the living room
The blinds have been there since we moved in, but I hadn’t been able to find the right curtains for the sliding glass doors in our living room in over a year. I searched everywhere I could think of with no luck. The funny thing was, I was actually at Target with my hubby looking for curtains for the DINING ROOM when he picked these up and said, “What about these?” “No,” I said, “Those aren’t the right style for the Dining Room. Nice for the Living Room, but not the Dining Room, babe.”
**Insert “ah-ha” moment here**
“OH! Those are PERFECT for the Living Room!!!”
**Insert my husband rubbing his ear here**
We moved into the home we currently live in in April, and one of my first priorities was to get the guest room in order. We have lots of friends and family who live out of our area, and we wanted to make sure we had a space that anyone would be comfortable in anytime it was needed. Plus, hurricane season was upon us (we Floridians are well-versed in precautionary measures) and we wanted to make sure we were good to go in case we had power and others didn’t, etc.
July 4 weekend we hosted our first guests (my cousin, her husband, their three kids and the best friend of their oldest – so 2 adults and 4 kids in all). Oh, and us. So 8 people in one house. And we seriously had SO MUCH FUN.
I’ve since got everything back in order, to the point that, if someone called me right now and said, “I’m on my way to your house, I need to stay for a couple of days,” there would be no need for panic. (Except trying to lock CoCo the kitty out of here – she thinks it’s HER room.) Check it out…
I can’t even tell you how many times people tell me that they wish they could be as organized in their home as I am. I normally chuckle over this…because, believe me, I don’t feel all that organized. But I thought I’d take a little walk around my house and photograph some of the “organizational items” I have in play, just to show you how easy it can be! In fact, you probably have some of these things in your home already!
I’ll tell you a little bit about my thought process and reasoning, as we go along. Are you scared yet? HA!
Please note: I ended up with a few more pics than I intended, so, rather than blowing you away with photos, this has now become Part I of II.
