There is no doubt that families in America love their pets. While people have a wide range of different animals as pets, dogs have to be one of the most common. In fact, over 60 million American households own a dog. However, deciding that you want a dog is only half of the battle. You then need to decide what kind of dog (which dog breed) to get.
As you skim through this dog breeds list, you will see there are many potential options. You will need to put a lot of thought into this decision. This is because every dog has a different temperament, different needs and thrives in different situations.
If you need some assistance on deciding which breed of dog is the best for your family, you’re in the right place. This article is going to go over a few tips to help you choose the best dog breed for your family.
A few weeks back, we went through nasty round of coughs at our house. My hubby and I knocked ours out pretty quickly, but it took a little bit more power for the girls. At just 15 months old, once theirs started to settle in their chest, I got them to the doctor. Antibiotics aren’t my preference, but neither is RSV, so it was a round of antibiotics for each of them, and then I kicked in the probiotics for everyone!
If you’re not familiar with probiotics, here’s a quick explanation: Probiotics are good bacteria that are either the same as or very similar to the bacteria that are already in your body. Things like antibiotics kill off those good bacteria in your body, and then your body functions at a diminished capacity as a result. When probiotics are introduced, they promote a healthy immune system and healthy bowels! And we ALL could use more of that!
Keeping foods rich in probiotics and taking probiotics after antibiotics are completed have always been regular practices in our household…or for the humans in our household, that is. So when I discovered there a was a probiotic for DOGS, I was, first of all shocked.
If you haven’t met her yet, meet Taffy the White Doggie.
We adopted Taffy from the SPCA a few years ago. Taffy is part of our family! She travels with us. She celebrates with us. She plays with us. She exercises with us.
So finding out that I could keep her healthy just like I do the rest of us, well, I was pretty stoked!
Did you know that this week, May 1 through May 7, is National Pet Week?
Created in 1981 by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Auxiliary to the AVMA, National Pet Week is dedicated to celebrating America’s more than 200 million pets that enrich our lives each and every day and encourage responsible pet care every day of the year – no matter if you’re celebrating a dog, a cat, a hamster or a tank full of platy fish!
Of course, around our house, the pets in question are CoCo the Black Kitty and Taffy the White Doggie!
And that’s about as close as they get to one another. Most of the time, it’s a peaceful co-existence. But sometimes there’s a bit of refereeing that needs to be done. Just one of the duties of a pet parent, right?
Bil-Jac understands pets (dogs, specifically) more than anyone else, I think. To this day, Taffy the White Doggie must sit and watch me open a package to make sure it doesn’t contain a bag of food or treats for her from the good folks who work there! And if it IS something from Bil-Jac? There is much doggie rejoicing, for sure!
