Pork Rind Appreciation Day – Gridiron Groovin’! (AND A GIVEAWAY!)

When I married my husband, I understood that I was marrying into a fantastic southern family. A fantastic southern family who hollered “Roll Tide!” any chance they got.

Fast forward a few years, and not only does our household have battery-operated mascots that play a full-orchestra version of the college song, but our 15-month-old twins even have their own cheerleader outfits. Two different kinds of them, to be exact. I’ve given in.

Not that I really minded in the first place.

As anyone who knows anything about college football knows, Alabama is…well…pretty durn GOOD. (Never mind that nail-biter last week with Mississippi State – did anyone SEE that?! WOAH!!!) I definitely think we’ll have a good group of guys moving on to the pros. And anyone who knows anything about football in general knows that, as games go (college OR pro), they’re always better if excellent snacks are involved!

So when Southern Recipe contacted me about their 7th Annual Pork Rind Appreciation Day, and sharing the news about their Gridiron Groovin’ game with NFL legend, Billy “White Shoes” Johnson, I was all about it!

The awesome thing about Gridiron Groovin’ is that you can play as many times as you’d like! Each time you do, you’ll queue Southern Recipe to make a donation to the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund. As well, a portion of the sale of each purchase of all Rudolph Foods’ products during the Pork Rind Appreciation Day season, including Southern Recipe, Southern Recipe Small Batch, Pepe’s Snacks and Lee’s Pig Skins, will support the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund.

Rudolph Foods Company, Inc. is one of the world’s largest suppliers of branded and private-label snack products, including the world’s largest manufacturer of pork rinds. With plants in Ohio, Georgia, Texas, Mississippi and California, Rudolph is solely dedicated to providing its customers with the best quality products and the highest levels of customer service at the best price. For additional information, visit RudolphFoods.com.

And, in case you’re not familiar with it, the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund (GGAF) is a non-stock, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization providing financial grants and ‘pro bono’ medical assistance to retired NFL players in dire need. The organization focuses on the humanitarian side of post-football related issues, which include coordination of social services to retired players who are in need due to a variety of reasons including inadequate disability and/or pensions. For additional information, visit www.GridironGreats.org. It’s a fantastic cause!

But the biggest news for you? Each game win enters you to win $2,500 and a giveaway of a year’s supply of pork rinds from Southern Recipe. Four runners up will also win $500 and free pork rinds! How’s that for going big or going home?!

Honestly, I’d probably be eating these pork rinds even if they WEREN’T holding such a great contest!

With such a great variety of flavors, I’m confident whatever game I’m watching (or playing) is made better by these little nuggets of awesome:

In fact, I’m such a fan of these pork rinds, well, I figured I’d give a lucky reader the chance to win some for their own football game viewing! Oh yes, a giveaway of my very own! I mean, it’s not $2,500, but it’s still a nice win!

Good luck, everyone!

  1. I got really into pork rinds during my first round of Whole 30. (Can you believe they’re a compliant whole food and still taste that good? I couldn’t lol.) My favorite football watching snack is probably wings…or Chex Mix, yum!

  2. I just recently learned while watching a Dr Oz show that pork rinds were not as junk as I always thought them to be. With very little carbs and naturally derived they offer a ton of healthy protein. I always compared them to like potato chips and was glad to hear they are the better snack

  3. These pork rinds sound like a great snack for the big games that you enjoy. I think it is great that your family is so into a sports team that they would get your twins outfits. How fun!
