On Organizing with Boxes and Baskets

If you’ve been reading the blog for any amount of time, you know how much I LOVE organization! I don’t mind organizing just about anything – something I’ve organized countless times before or a brand new challenge – I care not! Bring it on! But, I have to say, two of my favorite organizing tools are boxes and baskets.

Why, you ask? Okay, so you didn’t ask, but I’m gonna tell you anyways!

1. They’re great for cubbies! (This is from my home office)

2. They’re wonderful for bathrooms!

(You see arrows and text on the above photo because it was from an earlier post I did on organizing bathroom closets! CLICK HERE if you want to see it!)

3. They’re fantastic for closets in general!

(CLICK HERE for my post on how I organized our storage closet! With boxes and baskets, of course!)

4. You can even use them for decorating! (These are atop the cabinets in my kitchen)

And this is in our bedroom…

5. Some are dual function! (Like here in my living room)

6. Others can really go anywhere!

Do you see why I love boxes and baskets now?! What is YOUR favorite thing to use them for?

  1. Boxes and baskets are my best friends! But I do need to organize my trunk. Your trunk is so well organized. I’m jealous! Off to read your post about organizing the trunk.

  2. I absolutely love your boxes and baskets. I love to admire others because I can’t seem to get it together and use boxes to organize. I also like the idea of organizing your trunk with boxes because my trunk is always a mess!.

  3. I love organization. My kids don’t. It is a battle in our house. LOL I know this is just a season. I make the most of it and know they will grow out of this some day. I do live vicariously through your amazing organization and do take ideas.

    • You are so right, Jill! I remember when I was younger (yes, I was a clean freak then, too) and I would say something to my mom about something around the house being messy. She would say, “Well, honey, we live here!” (Either that or she would tell me to clean it up LOL) Trust me, we “live” at our house, too!

  4. I’m in love with baskets. I have a few that I use in my daughter’s room. I love reading about what you’re organizing because it inspires me to get my butt up and do something about my closets (especially the trunk of my car – which my husband hates). They’re clean….just not as organized as I would like. Thanks!

  5. I just love those little wicker baskets. I had a big one like that for laundry for years!! I just threw it out after Christmas because it had run it’s course, and I miss it so. πŸ˜‰

  6. I love organizing and I’m excited that you have so many posts for me dig into! I’m entering a phase of great decluttering and I even have some new baskets on hand to organize what is left. Ikea and the dollar store are two of my favorite places to get baskets. Do you have any favorites on where to find such cute ones?

    • Only because I’m so busy all the time, Melinda! I don’t have time to look for things, I want everything to be in its place and easily accessible, ya know? And I do try to make the organization match the decor, yes. It’s more fun and pretty that way πŸ™‚

  7. I have a love of organizing with baskets. I can usually find some real cheap at the dollar store. They even have some pretty stylish ones in stock from time to time.

  8. The picture on your dresser is beautiful!! You are so gorgeous!
I love totes and baskets as well. I’m thinking about having a separate toy box for each room, with just a few toys in them and then we can rotate baskets every once in a while.

  9. I really like organizing with baskets and boxes too! My Mom has done a lot of that. She is so good with decorating and space saving. We actually have one of those foot stools that you can store things in. Ours is full of books! God bless! πŸ™‚

  10. You organize your car trunk?! You’re so very organized. I’m equal parts jealous and awe-struck. I had to clear out my trunk after my car was totaled years ago. My girls were still little. There were layers of things in the trunk. You could have dated it like an archaeological dig by what was found in each layer; toys, school papers, soccer shin pads, and race numbers.

  11. Your house (and car!) are so neat and organized!! Everything looks great. I love using baskets and boxes too. I used to be a lot more organized before I had kids! And now with two toddlers it’s a lot harder to keep things neat and tidy. I still strive for it but some days I just settle for things at least being CLEAN! lol!

  12. These are lovely – they really make good home decors once you do it the right way and place it where it should πŸ™‚

  13. Baskets and boxes are surely the key to well organized collections of anything, especially if using open shelving or counters. I use color coordinated baskets in my laundry room.

  14. Sweet Lord!!! You are freaking me out.. as I sit here in piles of clutter and basketless! I do not think I could ever let you in my house.. you would shame me into a corner! I have flashbacks though to a day when I dabbled in Tupperware sales and did ALL my kitchen cabinets in Tupperware organized containers and yes, kept it that way for at least a few years!! OH, that’s right.. I don’t cook so they went untouched, not because i’m neat but because I never used anything in those cabinets!

  15. Because I live in a cottage and own too much stuff organization is key in my life. I definitely need to start organizing my kids closets by clothing bins.

  16. You really do a fantastic job organizing. I’m so not that organized at all. I find that I need to get a better system in place. I do have baskets in the kids room but I think I need them everywhere.
