Ever look for the “perfect” item for a specific part of your home…look for WEEKS for it…and finally find it…but it’s just not exactly right?
I saw this picture on Pinterest over the summer:
So pretty, huh? Thanks, Better Homes & Gardens, for the inspiration! I decided that those pumpkins and those pedestal candlesticks needed to be the centerpiece our dining room table for Fall!
You’ve already seen the pumpkins I found, remember?
But I had a hard time finding the candlesticks that I wanted. A very hard time.
When I finally found them, they were the right size and shape…but not quite the right style or color. However, they were on clearance at Walmart, and I wasn’t passing them up. I just couldn’t quite figure what was wrong with them. Check them out:
They are actually a dark brown, but they look black. I came to the conclusion that they needed some “distressing”, but I wasn’t sure how to do that.
Then, I got an idea. (Scary, right?)
I had this bottle of Krylon 18 Kt. Gold Plate Metallic Spray Paint.
So I took the candlesticks, some paper towels and this spray paint outside.
I bunched up one a handful of paper towels…
…and spritzed some gold on there…
…and brushed and dabbed it all over my candlesticks.
So…whatcha think? Think it worked? See for yourself!
Can you tell a difference?
Kinda cool-looking, I thought!
It brightens them up and totally changes their look! I’m much happier with them now!
What do YOU think? Have you ever rigged home decor to make it exactly how you envisioned it?
Wow, that is absolutely amazing, amazing, amazing. I am in awe of your talent. I am a pretty creative person, but you my friend are just awesome.
Oh, don’t be too much in awe LOL What I failed to mention is that I tried the reverse effect on another piece of decor (dark on gold) and it ended up a HORRIBLE mess! HA!
You are very creative! (Visiting from UBC)
Thank you! Thanks for stopping by and commenting! 🙂
Kristen, so cute! I am just not brave enough to try things sometimes. I love pinterest though. It gives me step by step and gives me courage to think outside my non-creative box!! Thanks for the cute idea.
My braveness comes in spurts, ha! I spend far too much time on Pinterest for my own good, but I love it, too!
Looks great

You are fabulous, my buddy. The colour of the stick look very elegant, i think.
Aw, thank you, Adelien! You are so sweet 🙂
What a stunning centerpiece! I love your creativity 🙂 I have three tiered candle-sticks on my mantle and I never thought to place small pumpkins on them. I think I’m going to get some today! Thanks for the inspiration ~ Renee
Thanks, Renee! I hope you find some great pumpkins!
Nicely done!! Of course I’ve rigged stuff to make it what I wanted it to be. 🙂 I live for that. haha
You have made a beautiful centerpiece.
I know, I LOVE to see your riggings LOL
Soooo creative and elegant. I absolutely couldn’t stop looking at those beautiful pumpkins!!
Thanks, Shirley! The pumpkins came from Hobby Lobby, my happy place! 🙂
They came out really good.
Thank you! 🙂
I’m feeling inspired to go beyond just carving for the kids. Awesome job!
Oh, good! I wanted to have a pumpkin painting party this year, but I ran out of free time LOL
Wow I love them! I am constantly buying things saying I am going to fix them up just the way I like, but I never end up doing it! Pinning
Go for it, Carli! (In your free time, of course! HA!)
I can tell the difference and they look great. I like your pumpkins better with it than the gord like things. Much nicer.
Thank you! I’m such a girly-girl – I love the pretty patterns!
Looking good, awesome job! I need to make a metal lamp stand looking old fashionable. I guess it would be a similar process, thank you for the ides.
I can’t wait to see what you come up with, Anna!
Wow, that makes a lot of difference! Those pumpkins are just gorgeous and it’s amazing how that little bit of gold sets off the candlesticks.
It just needed a LITTLE something, ya know? 🙂
Wow those are lovely! You did a great job and the splash of gold makes a big difference.
Thanks, Melinda!
Pretty. You did a beautiful job.
Thanks, Kelli!
I like how you changed the candlesticks! Those pumpkins are really neat, too!
Thanks, Bonnie!
I change stuff all the time. Spray paint is my new best friend! Your candle sticks looks awesome 🙂
Isn’t it fun?! I enjoy spray paint far too much…
I love your style! These are gorgeous!
Thanks so much, Katherine!
Wow! You did a great job with that. I’m not crafty or artsy but this looks so easy, or at least you make it look so easy and I love those pumpkins!!
It was VERY easy! (Sometimes I have an idea and it’s not nearly as easy as I think it will be…but this one WAS!)
Kristen, this is so pretty! I love when you have such a simple idea that becomes so elegant! These are adorable.
Thanks so much, Jill! Dumb luck! LOL
LOVE <3
Thanks, Dana! 🙂
I love the candlesticks! Dabbing a bit of gold on them was genius. They look perfect with those gorgeous pumpkins. I have enjoyed co-hosting the #HomeMattersParty with you!
