First of all, the winner of the $30 Amazon gift card to celebrate the third birthday of The Road to Domestication…Zoe Monteleone! Zoe, send me an email to Kristen@theroadtodomestication and I will hook you up!
And now…
When I saw the words “Crock Pot Steak Dinner!” on Pinterest last week, I was surprised and rather doubtful. While I’ve seen some amazing things done with a crock pot, an entire steak dinner…all in one crock pot?
I decided to try it. I mean, it couldn’t be that bad, right? I break out the crock pot every Sunday night and prep for Monday’s dinner. Around here, Mondays tend to be kind of rough, so it’s always nice to come home after a stressful day and walk in the house to the smell of a finished dinner!
Here’s the instructions:
- Line the bottom of the crock pot with foil
- Place a thick (at least 3/4-inch) steak in the bottom, and cover with at least 1/2 cup of steak sauce (my husband will only use A1 at our house!)
- Add another layer of foil
- Add in potatoes (foil wrapped) and FROZEN corn cobs (foil wrapped)
So basically, as you can see, at this point it looks like a crock pot full of foil!
- Cook on low for 6 hours
So I just popped the lid on, plugged her in, set it, and headed off to work. Doesn’t get any easier than that!
When I got home…
There you have it, folks! An entire steak dinner, right out of the crock pot!
Steak: it borders on medium-well, so if you want something more rare, just adjust your cook time
Corn: perfect!
Potatoes: perfect!
The pin also said you could try with thick pork chops or chicken, and use a BBQ sauce!
On that note, I’m not sure how to give credit where the pin is concerned. It’s a cell phone screen shot of a status from a place called Parga’s Junkyard, and it’s not linked to anything…so, I guess thanks to Parga’s Junkyard for this idea!
What do you think? What would you put in the crock pot along these lines to make an entire dinner?
That sounds so yummy! I love making things in my crock pot – especially on school nights when the kids have activities after they get home and I don’t have much time to cook!
Exactly! God bless whoever invented Crock Pots, right?!
Now I’ve seen it all! 🙂 Steak in the crock pot? Never would have thought about it. But it’s really neat that you have the entire dinner ready when you get home! Pinning!
I know it!!! Thanks for the pin, Alli! 🙂
Wow what an awesome idea! Although I’m a vegetarian and cannot partake of the meat – I’ve got a new way to prep veges (gotta keep the little munchkins interested). Great post!
Oh yes, I loved the idea of the frozen corn in foil! A whole new realm of possibilities!
We’re not a steak kinda house, but I’m going to try it with chicken! Love the idea of popping the potatoes and corn in there too. How big is your crock pot?
I know, I don’t love steak, but my husband does, so there you go LOL And my Crock Pot is a 7-quart one.
I’m with your husband. A1 is the way to go!
I have never seen a crock pot meal quite like this with everything wrapped in foil! I am pinning this and trying this ASAP! This is so cool! And it looks good too!
First of all, Amanda, welcome back to the blogging world! I hope this comment means you’re feeling great!!! And I know, this was a new one for me…I’m glad it all worked out well!
I have never thought to make steaks in the crock pot before, for some reasons steak and grill area a combination of words for me. Being that we do not have a grill yet, I might have to give this a try as I miss steak.
I know, we’ve always grilled steaks, too! This was a change, but it worked out well!
Interesting idea and really easy to do – I’m more into salads and smoothies nowadays but I love grilled vegetables for example!
Yes, I’m big into smoothies, too!
Wow this wounds great.Silly as it sounds i hate leaving anything on to cook while i am out i always get worried something will happen lol.
I know, I was worried the first couple of times LOL So I leave it in the Crock Pot on the stove. It tricks my mind into thinking that if it gets too hot, it’s a stove, so it should be able to take it LOL
Yummy! I could eat this after post workout! It is full of nutrients I can tell.
Absolutely!
Oh wow, crock pots can do more than I ever thought they could. I like meat in crock, so tender!
Yes, Anna, this rib eye just fell apart as I tried to get it out of the Crock Pot!
Oh this looks so delicious and seems so easy to do as well. I got a crock pot this past Christmas from my brother and I have yet to make any great meal with it. I may just have to give this one a try.
Oh yes, you should totally try, Amanda! You will love it!
This sounds like a lovely idea!
It certainly worked out that way, Sophie!
I love my crock pot. It makes me feel like a better person! You have given me great ideas. Thank you!
Oh, good, I’m glad, Monica!
Oh my that looks so good. I must try that we don’t do steaks often because they always come out tough.
I don’t buy them often because my hubby gets them almost every time we go out LOL But he liked this one!
I love steak and potatoes so this seems awesome. THank you for sharing!
Sure thing, Krystal, enjoy!
I may do that with some BBQ sauce. I love how easy it is to cover the whole meal in one!
I know it! I always find these great crock pot things on Pinterest, and then you have to make 15 more things to go with what’s in the crock pot, no thank you!
Crock pots seem to be getting more and more popular these days. That was a great giveaway
Yes indeed! (Or we’re getting lazier, one! LOL)
Now that amazes me! I still do not have a crock pot—I know I know–and even I am beginning to wonder how I am living without one.
LOL I think you need one 🙂
Yum. that looks amazing. I love food from the croc pot. It tastes great and I can do things while it cooks.
Exactly! Multi-tasking at it’s finest!
I’ve never cooked steak in a crock pot before, that’s interesting. I should give it a try one day.
I know, I wasn’t sure how it would work out, but it did well!
You are amAzing! A whole meal in the crock pot — I HAVE to try this!
I was pretty excited about it LOL
Oh this sounds delicious – I really should start making crock pot meals 🙂 x
They’re so easy, Sarah!
That looks so good. I need to make this for my family.
I think they would enjoy!
That looks like one yummy dinner! I’m hungry now!
HA! Sorry about that LOL
I have never tried steak in the crock pot, but I love the idea! I am going to do this on a busy weeknight when I want a yummy steak dinner, but know I won’t have time to cook one. Pinning!
Yes, exactly! Perfect for a busy night – definitely worth the wait for dinner!
It’s amazing what you can make in a crock pot. They are so easy and useful when cooking.
Agreed!
This looks awesome! I will be trying this soon, although I think I’ll substitute something else fro the corn… I wonder if broccoli and cauliflower would work??
Yes, those might work! I think you should report back in and let us know LOL
That is awesome! I have to try this. I am obsessed with crockpot recipes. Going to pin this one!
Thanks, Kristen!
I wonder if I could pull this off with some tweaks. Thanks for the inspiration- I’ve been in such a rut!
Oh, we can’t have that! No ruts! 🙂
The idea of having a complete meal, including the veggie side, done in the crockpot is pure genius!
I know, I thought it was pretty amazing!
Wow! That is so neat to have one whole meal in one crockpot! I want to try it.
Please do, Mel!
I’m just now learning how to make delicious meals using my crock pot so I appreciate all these tips. I’m excited about making many delicious meals in it.
It’s definitely a time saver! Keep up the good work!
I’m not sure that would fly around here! We like our steak medium rare with a nice sear on the outside and our corn barely cooked. Potatoes? I’ll throw the potatoes in the crock pot!
Oh dear…yes, you’re right, this is probably not for you LOL But you can do all kinds of great things with potatoes in the crock pot, for sure!
Oh my, this sounds so good! I have never thought to do steak in the crock pot.
Me either!
Great idea on making the beef another way. It should keep it moist.
Yes, it was definitely moist!
Crock-pot dinners are my favorite! Especially when summer temps are on the rise. Congratulations to the winner!
Yes, it sure does keep that kitchen a bit cooler, doesn’t it?
