Every home is different. Each home serves as a reflection of the tastes, interests, lifestyles, and values of the people who live in them. Interior design is how we communicate those characteristics through color, patterns, fabrics, textures, and layouts. It’s what allows us to craft truly memorable homes that are comfortable for the people who live in them, while taking pride in the space in which they live!
Even though each home can become unique, through the different choices in color scheme and other facets, there are some practical considerations that every home needs to accommodate. People need to eat, people need to sleep, and furniture and decor items, especially the more expensive ones, need to be protected against wear and tear. Though it may seem dull in comparison to choosing a beautiful color scheme, or picking out a beautiful set of drapes to adorn your windows, you need to think about these practical considerations, and how you’ll address them.Three Key Pieces of Home Decor that Every Home Needs! #homedecor #homedesign #interiordesign Click To Tweet
To help you do just that, we’ve compiled this list of three key home decor pieces that every home needs, regardless of your living situation or design style.
A Comfortable, Appropriately Sized Bed
Few things in life are as important as a good night’s sleep, and that’s why a bed that allows you to rest comfortably every night, without going overboard on size, is at the top of the list. When you don’t sleep well, or don’t get enough sleep, it will ruin your entire day. You’ll be tired, irritable, and unfocused. If that’s the condition you’re trying to operate in, it won’t matter how great the rest of your home design is – you’ll be too grouchy to appreciate it.
When you choose a bed, the first thing you need to look at is the sizing. This is important for two reasons: first, you want to make sure that the bed will fit within the confines of your bedroom; second, because beds become more expensive as they grow in size, you’ll want a bed that will fit your needs, but that you’re not overspending on.
The second aspect of the bed you need to consider is the firmness and comfort. People have different needs in a bed: some have to lay on the softest mattress possible to get a good night’s sleep, while others need a firm mattress, that offers plenty of lumbar support, so they don’t wake up writhing in pain.
A High Quality Area Rug
Rugs are some of the most versatile pieces that anyone can have, and the multitude of functions they provide is why they’re included on this list.
First and foremost, area rugs will help protect the hardwood or carpet that makes up your floor, preventing scuffs and staining, and saving you both time and money from having to clean or repair them. Depending on the material you select, a rug will also help insulate your home in the winter time, or encourage air flow in the hot summer months, allowing you to save on A/C and heating costs.
A rug is also a natural centerpiece, that you can use to both help choose the overall theme for your room, as well as help you orient the other pieces of furniture in your room. Finally, rugs can be incredibly warm and soft, making them the perfect piece to maximize your comfort, and really elevate the sense of relaxation your room brings.
A Comfy Couch
Who doesn’t want to have an awesome couch in their home to lounge on at the end of the day? Even broke college kids find a way to get couches for their dorm rooms and apartments. They’re that important!
Couches aren’t only great for you to lounge on when you’ve finished up with your work day; they’re essential for providing the seating you’ll need to host friends and family when they come to visit, or need a place to crash for the night.
