Did any of my momma-readers out there crave ICE when you were pregnant? It’s the weirdest thing! I don’t know if I want it because I need to be better at staying hydrated or I like the crunch or I like the cold, but ice is at the top of my cravings these days. You’d think that would be pretty easy to come by, except that our ice from our refrigerator/freezer does NOT taste good.
Am I really being this picky, I asked myself. Seriously, you have ice right here in the kitchen, just eat that! Why do you have to GO GET ice?! And then I realized why it wasn’t tasting so hot – our water filter needed to be replaced. Which got me thinking about making sure various household appliances are maintained…especially the refrigerator.
A refrigerator is a very expensive piece of machinery. Therefore, you must be sure to take special care of it. This will ensure that it lasts for many years so you will not need to buy a new one. There are a number of ways you can go about doing this. The most important thing is to understand all of the details about the refrigerator you have purchased. Read through the owner’s manual. It is amazing how many people spend well over $1,000 on a fridge and have no idea how to properly take care of it because they are too lazy to read the owner’s manual (I’m pointing fingers at myself here!). Here are some of the best ways to keep your refrigerator running perfectly.
1. Have the refrigerator serviced regularly
You most likely take your car to a professional mechanic on a regular basis to have the oil changed, the tires rotated and other various maintenance tasks performed. You do this to ensure that your car does not have any serious mechanical problems. The same logic should be applied to your refrigerator. It is similar to your car in that it is a machine that will break down if it is not properly cared for. Therefore, regular maintenance must be performed to ensure this does not happen. It would be wise to hire a professional refrigerator technician to take a look at your machine and make sure it is performing exactly as it should. The money that you will need to pay the technician will be a fraction of what it will cost to repair the fridge if it breaks down.
Okay, so it’s the day before Thanksgiving, and I know we’re all running around with our last-minute preparations, so today’s post is QUICK! No worries!
A couple years back, I was be-bopping around one of my favorite blogs, the world of Jenn over at iHeartOrganizing. (LOVE HER!) She was talking about something called a Fridge Coaster. What?!
Fast forward to present day, and I am the proud owner of several sets of Fridge Coasters!
Fridge Coasters are natural liners for your shelves in your refrigerator. Because don’t we all just HATE when someone spills something in the fridge and then it dries or sticks or crusts, and then we’re stuck scrubbing our lives away to clean up the mess?! UGH!
Now, Fridge Coasters don’t just solve the issue of spills – they pretty much obliterate it! They will actually absorb 4 – 5x their weight within 30 seconds after a spill! I mean, I can’t even CLEAN UP a spill within 30 seconds of it happening! Amazing! They are made of food industry-grade, quick-drying, hard-pressed wood pulp coaster board (2 mm thick), and they are also 100% biodegradable and recyclable. If you have a spill? You just pull out the Fridge Coaster and wipe it off. If it gets pretty wet? Just let it dry out, and pop it right back in your refrigerator.
Yep – it’s that easy! And they look like this:
Those of you who’ve been reading the blog for a while know that I despise clutter. Especially in the kitchen. There’s nothing I hate more than going into the kitchen and having to clean it before I can even cook in it…because then I have to clean it up when I’m done, too!
So when Jerin Marina approached me about doing an article for the blog about the essential items to furnish your brand new kitchen with, I loved the idea! I mean, come on, what woman would not want to suddenly have a brand new kitchen and furnish it with the necessities…and that’s IT! Jerin herself is a passionate cook and blogger who specializes in providing information on and reviews of food processors (which I think is fantastic – considering I don’t have a food processor *gasp* and I’ve learned a lot from her site! Check it out at BestFoodProcessorGuide.net when you can! Tons of fanatic information and side-by-side comparisons, the works!)
And so, without further ado, here’s Jerin!
Moving into a new home can be pretty nerve-wrecking for some people, as they have to deal with a lot of things so they can settle in comfortably. It has been found through studies and surveys that people take about two weeks on average to get settled in a new home, which, when compared to people living in fast cities, like New York, is pretty slow. People in New York take about a total of three days to get settled in a new home. The main reason for that is that people living in fast-paced cities know what tools, equipments and accessories are required for them to get settled in easily. The most important portion of a new home that takes up the most time is the kitchen. Here is your guide to the essential kitchen accessories and tools for your new home.
I haven’t done a Fabulous Find in a while, so, for those who aren’t familiar, it’s simply a new (or new to me!) product that I’ve found that I enjoy using around my home, and I hope you might, as well!
This one is Arm & Hammer‘s Fridge Fresh (refrigerator air filter). Have you seen it?
