I’ve been looking at my house from the outside recently. You know how you do. Winter is pretty much over. The weather is turning towards Spring. And you feel the need for something fresh and clean and NEW! So when Elizabeth Hill contacted me and asked if I was interested in publishing a post on updating your front door, I thought that was just what I might be looking for! So let’s see what kind of ideas she has for us…
As summer approaches, looking for ways to enhance the look of your front door can be a pretty exciting endeavor, as there are many options to explore!
Here are some of the most exciting types of changes that you can make:
1. Update Your Door Handles
If you live in the UK or even in some of the historic areas of America, your door handle actually might be quite an antique. On the other hand, all door hardware (like handles) have an expected life, and if they no longer fit as a design statement or have lost some of their functionality, then upgrading them to the latest style is a good idea. You may have seen several online stories about the smart-phone/smart-lock companies that created door handles that can be controlled by using your smart phone and a software application. Now that some of those locks are on the market, people have enjoyed making the changeover as it gives them more control over who comes and goes in and out of their house than before. A great place to actually find updated handles is at Door Handles Ltd, one of the UK’s largest online suppliers of door handles and accessories.
I’m a HUGE Pinterest fan, but, as my husband so eloquently commented, “You pin a lot more than you actually do anything with!”
Yes, he got “the look” for that, but he’s absolutely right. I have thousands of pins…because who can help it? Once you get on there, you just keep going! You know what I mean, right?
However, there was one idea I pinned a few weeks ago that I KNEW I would come back to and use. So, here it was:
Our big project over the weekend consisted of spending 6.5 hours in the garage at our new home.
While the interior of the actual house has been painted and has had new floors laid, the same could not be said about the garage. I’m not sure what the original color of the garage walls were…but they were less than dingy when we bought the house. We really aren’t accumulate-a-ton-of-tools-and-junk-and-do-projects-in-the garage-all-the-time people, so we really wanted to give it a nice makeover.
First step: cleaning. It’s funny; when you buy a home that has been lived in previously, you’re suddenly VERY conscious of all the dirt and grime from the people who lived there before! (Since all we had to clean up on the inside of the house was a little construction grunge, we were thoroughly baptized with the garage!
Second step: painting the walls and the door. We painted the door and all the walls good ol’ white, except for one wall. That one wall took the longest, but it is now a beautiful teal…”Seafaring Teal”, to be exact.
It all started when I saw this picture…
Now THAT is a BEAUTIFUL laundry room!!! I loved the color combination of the teal and the white – so fresh and clean! Yes, I even liked the chandelier, ha!
