It’s the age-old question of kitchen masters everywhere: how can I best organize my spices?
While this answer is probably different for each cook, baker and/or kitchen, I knew I needed to get a bit of a handle on mine! Here’s how I had them stored in my pantry:
Not too bad, in the grand scheme of things. (Note: I have a countertop spice rack, as well, but these are all my extra ones!)
But when I took a look at this I realized how much space they were taking up in my pantry. And I’m all about using extra space creatively to store things in, so I got to looking my pantry over. Have you seen my pantry? Take a look:
Although the pantry in our home now is MUCH bigger and better than the one we had in our apartment, it’s still pretty easy for things to clutter up in there.
The first time I went to The Container Store, I saw something that I KNEW would help, but I just wasn’t prepared to purchase it then. I hadn’t been able to get it off my mind (have you been there?) so when I took a couple friends to The Container Store last weekend for their first experience, I was well-prepared to purchase. I even had a gift card, a coupon, AND there was a sale!
Here’s the pantry before:
So I have a couple of drawers in my kitchen that have gotten a little too cluttered for my taste. Take a look.
Someone purchased an automatic soap dispenser for us as a wedding gift. Now, I had indeed seen the automatic soap dispensers while we were registering at Bed, Bath & Beyond, but it seemed to me one of those items that, if it was placed on a registry, would cause a great deal of amusement among gift-givers. (Especially those who know what a germ-a-phobe I am.) So I left that off…but thought it was an intriguing idea, nonetheless.
When we opened said automatic soap dispenser, I was quite enthusiastic! Someone had read my mind! Designed for touch-free operation, which helps prevent the spread of germs, this dispenser automatically senses your hand and releases soap! (Or lotion…but who needs an automatic lotion dispenser? Ours is used for soap.)
So here we go with Part II of the Around the House Organization post. Remember, I’m taking a little walk around my house and photographing some of the “organizational items” I have in play, just to show you how easy it can be! In fact, you probably have some of these things in your home already! I’ll tell you a little bit about my thought process and reasoning, as we go along.
Let’s continue on in the kitchen.
