Keeping Your Loved Ones Independent…with a Home Elevator!

For some reason, the past few months around here have been fraught with medical issues for our family! I guess it was just our turn, right? Even right now my hubby is recovering from surgery, and he’s finding it a bit hard to get around the house. Last week I was helping out his grandparents, who find it EXTREMELY hard to get around the house, and I got to thinking about accessibility issues when it comes to our homes!

When your loved one can no longer move around their home the way they would like to, it can be a difficult situation to be faced with. Should they move? Should you place them in a home for the elderly? Luckily, those are not the only options available. You can actually make their home more accessible by installing a home elevator. It is much more cost-effective than buying a new home, and it will give your loved one the independence they are missing!

The residential elevator cost will not be cheap, but it is still much less expensive than having to buy a new home or having to pay for their care in another facility every month. It is also much less stressful, and your loved one will be able to continue living where they would rather be anyway.

Three Key Pieces of Home Decor that Every Home Needs

Every home is different. Each home serves as a reflection of the tastes, interests, lifestyles, and values of the people who live in them. Interior design is how we communicate those characteristics through color, patterns, fabrics, textures, and layouts. It’s what allows us to craft truly memorable homes that are comfortable for the people who live in them, while taking pride in the space in which they live!

Even though each home can become unique, through the different choices in color scheme and other facets, there are some practical considerations that every home needs to accommodate. People need to eat, people need to sleep, and furniture and decor items, especially the more expensive ones, need to be protected against wear and tear. Though it may seem dull in comparison to choosing a beautiful color scheme, or picking out a beautiful set of drapes to adorn your windows, you need to think about these practical considerations, and how you’ll address them.

To help you do just that, we’ve compiled this list of three key home decor pieces that every home needs, regardless of your living situation or design style.

A Comfortable, Appropriately Sized Bed

Few things in life are as important as a good night’s sleep, and that’s why a bed that allows you to rest comfortably every night, without going overboard on size, is at the top of the list. When you don’t sleep well, or don’t get enough sleep, it will ruin your entire day. You’ll be tired, irritable, and unfocused. If that’s the condition you’re trying to operate in, it won’t matter how great the rest of your home design is – you’ll be too grouchy to appreciate it.

The 2017 First Birthday Holiday Shelf!

Well, I have no idea if this is going to become a regular thing…a birthday holiday shelf – for the twins, that is! But it’s a nice way to break up my decoration phases, and, since we just had a huge party for the girls first birthday, I included the shelf as part of the party decor. (More about the party later!) But for now…check out the 2017 First Birthday Holiday Shelf!

New house and a new spot for the shelf, but still can be seen from the front door pretty easily, so that’s good!

The theme of the girls birthday party was, “Two Sweet Peas in a Pod”, so of course, I had to incorporate some Sweet Peas!

Making Memories: 6 Beautiful and Family-Friendly Backyard Ideas!

The twins are now 7 months old, and I FINALLY feel like I’m getting control of my house again! I mean, MERCY! I knew I’d be off my game for a while, but I didn’t realize it would be for THIS LONG! Don’t get me wrong – they are SO worth being off my game for! Nonetheless, I’m thrilled to be back on track.

Inside, that is. I’m back on track on the INSIDE of the house.

Every time I drive up to our house I see a million things I need to handle. Does anyone else do that, or is it just me? And that’s just in the front!

When I look at the back yard, I’m completely overwhelmed.

We have a very large back yard, for which I am so grateful. It’s nicely fenced with a pretty white privacy fence, and we even have a few things like a pineapple bed, a garden, and several different spots in which to sit – a picnic table by the garden, a screened-in porch and a brick patio.

But my mind has been turning with ways we can make it kid-friendly, since, before I know it, the girls will be running around out there! (Already one of their most favorite activities is to be outside rolling around on a blanket!)

So when blogger Chloe Taylor contacted me with just that, a post of family-friendly backyard ideas, I knew it was fate! And when it comes to ideas, Chloe has some awesome ones!

Kids absolutely love spending time outdoors; running around and exploring the world. But what if you simply can’t find the time to organize family walks or visits to the playground? Well, what better way to satisfy your kids’ curiosity and adventurous spirit than your own backyard? Of course, the key is in creating a fun and an enticing place for your family, so that kids can play to their heart’s content and stay safe. Play at a young age is a child’s process of learning, which is why you should seriously consider the following ideas for your own family-friendly backyard.

From WHITE to BRIGHT…with Chairish!

There’s not much better than walking into a blank slate of a room, is there? When you first walk into an empty room, the possibilities are endless – and I love that feeling! The room can essentially become anything you want it to be at that point! (I’m getting excited just thinking about it, ha!)

So when Holly from Chairish asked me to design an entire room around just one (albeit fabulous) accent chair, I wasn’t quite sure that I could. An entire room, starting with one chair? Normally I have a bit more to go on…but I figured I would give it a shot!

I chose THIS chair:

THIS is a Lee Industries Leather Wing Chair. Is it not the most gorgeous thing you’ve ever seen?! I just love it!
