But in the meantime, when Julie Austin asked to share a post on living room decorating ideas, I thought maybe I might get even more ideas for ours! HA! And I was most certainly right! Check it out…

The living room is called the living room for a reason. It’s that part of your home where you can just sit back and enjoy comfortable hours of leisure time with your friends and family. You can watch long hours of television on a snowy day even take a nap every day for some time.

Therefore, your living room should be a room which would display tons of comfort and an atmosphere of tranquility. Often we tend to confuse how we should go about decorating the living room with how we should not go over budget at the same time. Check out these 5 amazing ideas to decorate your living room as per your desire!

Patio Dreamin’…with Arhaus!

One of the draws for us when we bought our home was the screened-in back porch. We knew CoCo the Black Kitty would especially love it, and, as someone who loves to have the windows open and fresh air flowing through as much as possible, I was pretty excited about it, too. But we got a bonus! In addition to the screened-in back porch, we also got a beautiful brick patio! Here’s what we did with it soon after we moved in:

Nothing fancy! Just some potted plants, a couple chairs and an umbrella.

Here’s what it looks like today:

A few little things have changed. The house has been painted. You can see that the plumerias (which bloom a beautiful shade of pink!) got too big for their pots, so I created a large bed to plant them in. Look how much they’ve grown! My other pots are filled with “experiments”, aloe (you can never have too much aloe, especially when you cook like I do!) and herbs. Also good to have lots of fresh herbs around my house!

I freshen the chairs with new cushions each season, and yes, we still have an umbrella. It’s the same deep red color, except it’s solid on both sides. We learned, after leaving the first umbrella out all the time, that umbrellas are no match for the strong storms we get over the summer here in Florida. After two bent-in-half umbrella catastrophes, we now keep it in the garage until we’re ready to use it!

The other thing you’ll notice is the small white table on the right. That is actually a fish-cleaning table right from The Bass Pro Shop, but my sweet in-laws bought it for me to use as a potting station – and it works beautifully! It’s normally located around the corner, but my hubby moved it closer to the back door so my preggo self wouldn’t have to walk so far. Hook it up to the hose and it’s got a functioning sink and everything! Love it!

It’s a tad bit more disjointed than I’d like it to be, but it’s pretty comfy, and it works for us!

However, I noticed something the other day.

I heard a strange noise outside, and, since I knew Taffy the White Doggy was in the yard, I stepped out to see what she was doing. I immediately observed her dragging one of the chairs across the patio.

I knew she was making a valiant attempt to catch a lizard, but I scolded her and sent her inside all the same. When I walked over to the chair, I noticed that BOTH of them actually showed signs of being dragged across the bricks, and even looked a bit wobbly, as if they had been pounced on one too many times. Hmmm. Maybe it’s time for some new furniture out there.

Tips & Tricks for Designing the Perfect Coffee Table!

I’m SO CLOSE TO BEING DONE with our living room redo. Y’all, this pregnancy tiredness is kicking my booty! (But that’s what’s supposed to happen in pregnancy, so I will take it!)

One of the things we’ve done is get new furniture – out with the microfiber and in with the leather, and none too soon! (I imagine cleaning up spit-up and other bodily fluids is much easier when it comes to leather!) And one of the pieces of new furniture is a new coffee table/ottoman.

I struggled with this for a while. I wanted something unique, yet functional, yet not too big, yet flexible. I finally settled on something (and you’ll have to wait until I reveal the room to see it) but what I really should have done was just gone to Chairish.com

Select the Right Finish for Your Wooden Furniture Restoration Project

Remember a few months ago when I refinished a piece of furniture for our Master Bedroom?

If you’re wondering what the hold-up is on revealing the finished Master,  it’s that I’ve found 2 more pieces that I want to refinish and add to the room! HA! A glutton for punishment I must be! And I’m learning more and more about how it works as I go along.

Transforming old pieces of furniture into shabby-chic masterpieces is a popular hobby for many people. It’s really easy to pick up an old table or chest of drawers for next to nothing. Often the piece will already be painted, but whatever the current finish is, with a little bit of effort on your part, you can give it a new lease of life and make it beautiful again. So what are the best finishes for wood?

On Painting a Console Table

One of my favorite things to look at on Pinterest (FIND ME THERE BY CLICKING HERE) or Hometalk (FIND ME THERE BY CLICKING HERE) is PAINTED FURNITURE. Actually, I even have an entire board on Hometalk devoted to refinished furniture! And when I come across a blog featuring some painted furniture, I always stop and look at that, too. I’m not sure why the fascination, but I give in every time!

So finally, I decided to paint something myself. I was a bit nervous, because I had heard that it was a bit of work, and if you didn’t get it just so, it would be ruined.

What did I paint, you ask?

Do you remember our Master Bedroom Tour from July? (CLICK HERE TO SEE IT IF YOU MISSED IT!) Well, there was a console table involved…

DSC_0063

Yeah, that one! A friend of my mother-in-law was going to throw it out, right around the time we were moving from our apartment into our house, so my mother-in-law brought it with her on moving day, in case we had somewhere we could use it.

Overall, it’s a pretty table! Sturdy and a good size and I like the little details, too!

But, as you can see, it just didn’t match…ANYTHING.
