Helps for Your Thanksgiving Preparations – FREE PRINTABLES INCLUDED!

Just under a week until Thanksgiving, my FAVORITE holiday! Are you ready?!

I’m hitting the “excited” stretch now. I’ve been looking down the barrel of “I have WAY too much to get done before Thanksgiving” for a few weeks now, but at this point, I think I’m fairly set! And I’m here to share a few helps with you so you can be fairly set, too!

My parents are in town for a week and a half, so of course, I needed to make sure my house was ready for them!

Here’s how to make sure YOU are ready for house guests, too!

Fall Holiday Shelf! (With a Couple of New Decorations and a FREE PRINTABLE!)

So far this year, you’ve journeyed along with me as I tested five new Fall recipes (CLICK HERE IF YOU MISSED THAT AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT NOW), and you’ve seen the outside of our home all decorated for Fall! (CLICK HERE IF YOU MISSED THAT AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT NOW!)

I’ve had a few people ask me about the decor around the inside of the house, and specifically: the Holiday Shelf!

For those who are new around here, my Holiday Shelf is my weak attempt at pretending I have a mantle. Here in Florida, we don’t have too many fireplaces, meaning we don’t have too many mantels, meaning I can’t decorate a mantel for all the seasons and holidays that I enjoy decorating for. So I’ve substituted a shelf in our foyer for that…and the Holiday Shelf was born!

Anyhoo, this is old hat to most of you – so, may I present to you, the 2015 Fall Holiday Shelf!

I know, I know what you’re thinking already. BLACK AND GOLD?! What on earth! Those aren’t FALL colors!

Well, here’s the thing. I’ve been itching to do some kind of decorating with black and gold for a while now, so I decided that now was as good a time as any. And mainly because…I found THIS:

Questions to Ask of a Painter – with a FREE PRINTABLE Included!

You may have heard me mention in previous posts that we are gearing up to have our house painted. We didn’t LOVE the color when we bought the house two years ago, but there were a few more pressing things that we wanted to take care of before painting got to the top of the priority list. You know how that goes when you buy a home!

So now, we’re ready! We have the money set aside, we’re in a good season for painting in Florida, and we’re doing the MOST fun part: looking for a painting company.

Hands down, one of my LEAST favorite things when it comes to home ownership is looking for “a guy”.

You know how people do. “Oh, you’re gonna get your house painted? I know a guy!” And while some folks are just handy with EVERYTHING, we are NOT those folks. And it’s not for lack of trying…we just are not those people! What we ARE is people who work hard so we can pay other people to do things that we can’t do. And the world needs people like that, too!

So far, we’ve got “guys” (or gals, as the case may be!) for pest control, lawn care, screening, garage door, air conditioning and carpentry. I think that’s it. So I’m in the midst of the hunt for the painting “guy”.

While calling and emailing and searching, I decided I would be much more productive if I could do it in a more organized manner, so I created this:

Signature creations

Organized, and cheerfully colorful, too! (These are the things that help me get stuff done!)

If you would like to download it, please feel free to do so by CLICKING HERE!

And if you’d like more information on the process of having your home painted, check this out: I guest-posted on this very subject over at Sly Deluxe, an awesome home improvement site! If you’d like to read “Tips for Choosing  a Painting Company for Your Home”, CLICK HERE!

Have you had YOUR home painted? Do you have “a guy”? Any other questions you would add?

Due to the amount of comments from all of my wonderful readers, it is not always possible for me to respond to each one. However, I absolutely do read them all, and if you’d like to address something specific, or have a question for me, please don’t hesitate to email me at Kristen@theroadtodomestication.com. I will respond to your email as soon as possible! Thank you for visiting the blog!

On the Road in May

Well, I’m only 11 days late re-capping last month this time. That’s better than 16 days late, right?! One day I’ll get it done within the first three days of the month, I can feel it!!! But until then…here are the top five posts for the month of May here at The Road to Domestication! (In no particular order.)

1. Cleaning by Week, Month & Year with Free Printables – Did you see this one? If you’re one of the ones who keeps “meaning to do some Spring Cleaning…” THIS POST IS FOR YOU!

Cleaning by Week, Month & Year…with FREE PRINTABLES!

First of all, can I announce the winner of the digital downloads from Northern Whimsy? (It’s my blog, sure I can! HA!) So…Alli Rutherford Smith, YOU are the winner!!! Congratulations to you!!! Shoot me an email at Kristen@theroadtodomestication.com and I’ll get ya all set up!

And now…

I’ll admit it. It’s nothing you don’t already know, so that makes it easier. I’m a clean freak.

Yes, it’s true. But, believe it or not, I’ve actually gotten much more relaxed than I used to be! (You can stop laughing any time now.)

Still, there are some things that are very easy for me to obsess over. For instance: when I sit down on the couch at the end of the day and I’ve worked the full time job for 8 hours and then the part time for 2-3 more hours and then I’m trying to work on the blog until I fall asleep and I look up and see the filthiness that is the set of sliding glass doors that lead to the  back porch…I get a little agitated. Suddenly I notice dirt everywhere, and then I feel the need to get up and clean and then I’m tired and overwhelmed…you get the idea.

I tossed this around in my head for a while: how do I spread out all the cleaning that needs to be done across a week so not one day is more loaded than any other? How about across a month? A year? Hmmm…

You may remember when I solved PART of that problem a few months ago with my Weekly Chore List Printable. (If you missed that post, no worries, just CLICK HERE and you can check it out…and still get that free printable!) So that was that, and it’s been working pretty well so far. But I still needed to work on the cleaning items that needed to be accomplished once a month, or once a quarter, or once a year, even.

I searched Pinterest and Etsy and the blogosphere, looking for the type of printable I needed. Of course, when all else fails, I did what I always do: I made it myself.

So here’s what I’ve done: I’ve really just made a few simple and pretty lists!

Weekly, Monthly, and I’ve split the year up into quarters:

Weekly
