Chores That Should Be At The Top Of Your To-Do List This Fall

One of my favorite things all year long is putting out my Fall decorations! I LOVE FALL! And I love decorating for it! So I sometimes have to remind myself that, as fun as decorating for the season is, the important thing is to make sure you’re prepared for it.

When spring hits, people are eager to get out their mop buckets and brooms to give their house a good cleaning. When it comes to the fall season, you should also get ready to run through a list of chores to prepare your property for falling leaves and colder nights.

Caulking windows

The moment that the balmy days of summer end, you will want to seal your window and door frames with caulk to secure your house from the chilly outdoor temperatures. This is a terrific chore to take on during the fall because the weather is more likely to be forgiving — the results may not be as effective if you apply it on a day that is freezing cold or blistering hot.

How to Get Your Home Ready for Autumn

So I just looked at my hubby’s “weather center”, and right now it’s 91 degrees here in Central Florida. DANG. Has that stopped me from moving wards the “Fall” mindset?! NO. I LOVE Fall, and I’m SO ready for our weather to reflect it! In that spirit was today’s post penned…errr…typed.

How to Get Your Home Ready for Autumn #howto #fall #autumn Click To Tweet

Whether we like it or not, autumn is fast approaching, and that means saying goodbye to the warmer sunnier months and welcoming the crisper, cooler time of year. (YES!) As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, you’ll want to start finishing up any last-minute maintenance on your home and start getting it prepped for autumn and winter. Here are some great tips on how you can get your home ready for those colder months, so you can be well-prepared waving summer off.

What Prep Do I Need to Do Inside?

There are many tasks you will need to complete inside your home in order to get it ready and prepped for the colder months. If you have a fireplace, make sure it  has been cleaned out and that your chimney flute is in good working order. Along with your fireplace, if you have a furnace then you will need to get it ready for winter duty. We would recommend you have this professionally cleaned.

The 2017 Fall Holiday Shelf!

I. LOVE. FALL.

I always have, ever since I can remember. And I still love it this year, too. But for some reason, this year I had a really hard time decorating for the Fall season like I normally do! Maybe it’s that we’re in a new house, and I have to revamp where I’m putting everything. Maybe it’s because I have two toddling helpers who follow me everywhere I go. Maybe it’s because it’s still so dadgum HOT outside. I’m not sure.

But I finally got my Holiday Shelf done!!! Woot woot! So here it is!

DSC_0105

Can you tell I had trouble with it?! HA!

It’s a little bit different than normal…somehow. I still feel like it is. But I really wanted to use these sweet little deer because we kind of live in the country now, and I thought they were a neat reflection of that.

Festive Ways for Warm-Weather Families to Have a Cold-Weather Christmas

Okay, okay, calm down, calm down. I’m not “starting in on Christmas” already. Well, not really. But y’all know that here in Florida, it does NOT feel like Fall quite yet. Even though yesterday WAS the first day of Fall, the temperature on my back deck read 91 degrees, with a “feels-like” temperature of 95. I kid you not. Does that give you festive warm Fall fuzzies? Yeah, me neither.

FESTIVE WAYS

But there ARE things I do this time of the year to try and help it FEEL more like Fall in Florida. Fall foods. Fall scents. Fall decor. You’ll actually get to see lots of that here on the blog over the next few weeks.

And all this “trying to make it feel like Fall” got me thinking. When it’s 70 degrees in Florida in December and we’re “trying to get it to feel like Christmas”, what on earth will we do then?!

If you live in a warm-weather state like California, Arizona, Hawaii or Florida, you may gaze wistfully at your friends’ winter time photos on social media of their snow-covered lawns and their rosy-faced kids making snowmen.

While you are eager to get into the holiday spirit, you find yourself wishing that the weather would magically cool off in Tucson or Tampa and that you could experience a true White Christmas.

Fortunately, there are a number of ways that you can create a festive and chilly Christmas season — at least one that looks that way.
