This Sunday is a special day for The Road to Domestication. A little over two years ago, I had an idea.
I was missing writing. For those of you who didn’t know, I double-majored in Journalism and Public Relations in college, and since nearly sending myself over the edge working as a magazine editor, I hadn’t done much writing. And I missed it terribly. I needed an outlet. Plus, I was getting ready to get married, and had all these lovely ideas in my head of what the “perfect” wife was like…all domestic and stuff.
I started an album on my Facebook page called The Road to Domestication, where I posted (and still post, occasionally) pics of all things domestic that I was involved in. But that didn’t help with the writing aspect.
I had never really followed any blogs before. And I had NO clue what I was doing…and probably still don’t most days! But I figured, what the heck – I’m gonna start a blog!
So I did! It looked like this:
(It’s still active if you want to go back and see from whence I came – check it out HERE!)
I have ALWAYS been a calendar kind of girl. My high-school classmates still joke around with me about the planner I used to carry around – color-coordinated with a variety of colored gel pens and highlighters. (I wish I had saved one of those planners, I’m sure I would be pretty amused to see it now!)
I’ve used planners, wall calendars, desk calendars, phones, computer calendars…I’ve used them all. But in the middle of last year, I couldn’t find a system that was working for me anymore. After completely forgetting about several different appointments (which is very unlike me and VERY frustrating to me), I knew something had to give.
Since Google is king (buy your stock now, folks!) I decided to jump on the bandwagon. But the problem was, I do so much! Putting everything on one calendar was stressing me out – and that was NOT the point of the project!
So here’s what I did: I set up a few new Gmail email addresses, so that, in total, I had three: a personal email address, a business email address for my photography and a business email address for my professional organizing. Yeah, that took some work, but it was totally worth it – because each one of those email addresses is linked to a Google calendar.
Whether you are brand new to this blog or have come over from the old blog, welcome! I’m excited that you’re here to enjoy the Road to Domestication along with me!
So, why are we here? (I mean, why are we over at WordPress now instead of Blogger?) The more research I did on blogging platforms, the more I discovered that WordPress offers a greater flexibility and potential for advancement than Blogger – so I decided to migrate this way. I’ve got a LOT to learn on this platform now, but I’m up for the challenge! And I’m excited about it, and about what’s coming!!!
