Carpet Cleaning for Homes with Babies

If you’re a regular follower here on the blog, you know I LOVE things around my home to be clean. It’s a lot harder now to get that clean feeling than it used to be before the babies arrived, but it’s still very possible! In fact, one of the best gifts I was given after we brought the twins home was a maid service to come in and give our home a deep cleaning from top to bottom! My goodness, it was FANTASTIC!!! I mean, I really enjoy cleaning myself, but I wasn’t able to, so why not bring in some professionals?

These days, we’re staring down the barrel of the “crawling” stage. At almost 5 months old, the twins are now enjoying tummy time instead of getting angry about it, and even doing a bit of rocking on their knees and similar “right before crawling” poses – they’ll be mobile before we know it! With that in mind, I’ve been trying to find someone to come in and sanitize all the floors completely. That way, I can maintain their cleanliness, but I know from the get-go that I started off with something perfectly clean and fresh!

So when Kevin from Chem-Dry contacted me about their cleaning process, I was impressed, to say the least. And schooled, as well! Turns out I didn’t know much about carpet cleaning. But never fear – Kevin is here to give us all the details and help us to decide what works best for our home!

There is nothing more exciting than bringing a new baby home from the hospital! It’s a wonderful event for a home and a family. But, it can be stressful, too, and you have to be prepared. Especially if you are a brand new parent! Do you have the crib put together? Is the nursery decorated? Did you buy enough diapers and clothing and wipes and…

…the list goes on and on and on. It’s overwhelming, and that’s not all!

There is one important thing that’s not even on the list that you will want to complete as soon as possible: professional carpet cleaning.

Deep carpet cleaning probably isn’t one of the first things that come to mind when preparing to bring home a baby from the hospital. It’s not as important as the car seat, but it is a very good idea. Dirty carpets contain a lot of allergens, germs, contaminants and yucky stuff you won’t want to subject your newborn baby too. Your baby will spend a lot of time on or near the floor and carpet not long after you bring him or her home. You will want the floor to be as clean and as safe as humanly possible.

Is Carpet Cleaning Safe for Babies?

First of all, we do not recommend rental machines or DIY solutions. Misuse of a rental machine can lead to damage of your carpet or danger from chemicals, and most DIY solutions are ineffective at removing deep, embedded dirt. Trust a professional service when it comes to cleaning your carpet, especially with a newborn in the house.

We don’t have too much carpet in our home. As a matter of fact, the only carpet you’ll find is in our closets. And in only three of our closets, at that! But I have many friends (and, yes, many readers) who still struggle with their carpet – mainly with keeping it CLEAN.

Top 10 Tricks for Easy Carpet and Rug Cleaning – A Guest Post!

I’ve been telling my husband for several months that I’m going to replace the rug in our dining room.

While the majority of our home is tile and wood floors, I still have rugs scattered about, and the dining room rug has had more than it’s share of incidents.  (You all know that one place on the carpet, or that one rug that has just taken a beating in your own home…everyone has “that spot”!)

For some reason, when we first brought Taffy the white doggy home, every time she decided to act out, she did so on the rug in the dining room. I’ve cleaned it and cleaned it and cleaned it, but it’s still not quite the same. Plus, we eat in there, and we and our guests have not helped the rug to look any better!

So when Sofia Lewis contacted me to see if I’d like to share her post on carpet cleaning (EASY carpet cleaning, at that!) I was ready to read it to see what I was missing! Checkout her top 10 tricks!

Carpet & Rug Cleaning

1) A thorough inspection at the earlier steps of the carpet cleaning is that little, yet quick and easy step, where you should only consider where are the heavily worn areas, the most stained ones or these that require more care. From the play area to the adjacent areas to the dining table or the chairs – these are usually the spots which see the heaviest daily traffic.

The Red Carpet Treatment!

The 87th Academy Awards ceremony (the Oscars) will be held this coming Sunday! While I’m not typically a fan of awards shows, I DO enjoy watching the stars arrive on the red carpet. I think you can tell a lot about a person from the way they dress, and I’m always trying to predict the best and worst-dressed! (That’s about as fashionable as I get, to be perfectly honest.) But it’s a fun game to play!

Regardless of wins or losses in the fashion world and beyond, one thing is for sure: that red carpet better be spotless! I mean, really, people. I sure wouldn’t want to be there if someone discovered a STAIN on the carpet right before the stars begin showing up…I can only imagine the frenzy that would ensue. Perhaps they even have an entire spare red carpet hidden somewhere? I have no idea, but it seems like a plan to me!

So when Hannah from Ghergich & Co contacted me to see if I’d like to share this lovely infographic, I happily agreed! I mean, telling me that carpets can be 4,000 times dirtier than the average toilet seat (can we all just stop for a big ol’ EEEEEWWWWW!!!!!) kinda got my attention. But, she also tells us how to CLEAN them. Which I love! So check it out…

Thanks to Hannah and her partner, eReplacementParts, for the fantastic graphic! Don’t you LOVE that stain removal guide?! SO handy!

Solutions to Treat the High-Traffic Areas of Your Carpet – A Guest Post!

You may have read a post or two before from me, noting that the only places in our current home that are covered in carpet are three closets. (Well, we have large area rugs, but actual carpet is only in three closets.) One of those closets being our master bedroom walk-in. It’s a pretty large closet, and it’s also the favorite spot of CoCo the black kitty.

When we first brought CoCo to this house, she was terrified, because she didn’t know what was happening and she didn’t know where she was. The first place she went was into the closet, because, by the time we got her to the house, we already had some of our clothes in the closet. I think she could smell our scent on them, and it was comforting to her.

She has loved that closet ever since. Especially when she’s scared. She’ll head for the closet in a heartbeat.

When we brought home Taffy the white doggy, CoCo started spending even more time in that closet. We realized it was a safe place for her, so we bought a little pet gate and we keep that at the closet door, and even started keeping her food and water in there, so Taffy couldn’t get to it.

I say all that to say this: even though we don’t have much carpet at our home, there is a LOT of traffic that happens on the carpet that’s in the Master Bedroom closet…and it was looking a little dingy.

However, blogger Pheeby Snow sent me a post to publish that will help my dingy Master Bedroom closet carpet…and any carpet you may have around your home, too! Let’s check out what she has to say!

Properly-chosen carpets can create a pleasant atmosphere in your home, and all the interior designers pay a considerable amount of attention to them. But after the initial excitement of the fresh new carpet comes the more difficult part – its maintenance.
