New Product Review: CLR!

If you’ve been around the blog at all, you know that I try to clean as naturally as possible in my home. With twins under the age of 2, natural cleaning products are especially important to me, since these girls can get into ANYTHING pretty quickly. VERY quickly, actually.

But every once in a while, one of my natural cleaning concoctions just doesn’t cut it. Case in point:

CLR Review 2

This is the automatic ice/water dispenser on our refrigerator.

Now, we just TODAY celebrated our one-year anniversary of moving into this house. And I have now been trying to clean this up for an entire year! I gave it a lot of special attention just now during my Spring Cleaning checklist, and I STILL wasn’t happy with it!

The hard water here is to blame, and a water softener IS on our list of improvements, but for right now, this is what I had to work with. And my natural ideas just weren’t cutting it at all.

So when Kasie from CLR contacted me and asked if I was interested in review a couple of their products, I figured, why not! So she sent me over the original CLR concentrate, and the CLR Bath & Kitchen Foaming Action Cleaner.

Now, in case you’re not familiar with the product, CLR stands for Calcium, Lime and Rust. It’s a powerful formula that claims to quickly and easily dissolve and removes tough calcium and lime deposits as well as surface rust stains from bathtubs, toilet bowls, sinks, glass, chrome, fiberglass, stainless steel, most coffee makers, humidifiers, dishwashers, washing machines and showerheads. The formula also is perfect for use on RVs and boats. I had heard of the line before, and knew them as heavy-duty cleaning solutions, which meant “lots of chemicals” in my mind. But when the products arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see a new marking on the bottles that I hadn’t seen before: the Safer Choice logo from the EPA!

So what does Safer Choice mean? When you see a product with the Safer Choice label, it means that every ingredient in the product has been verified by EPA scientists to meet their Safer Choice standards, which includes stringent human health and environmental criteria. Meeting the Safer Choice Standard is voluntary. Companies like CLR who manufacture Safer Choice products have invested heavily in research and reformulation to ensure that their ingredients and finished product line up on the green end of the health and environmental spectrum.

I SO appreciate that about CLR! I also appreciate that it contains no phosphates and is Septic Safe. And I really appreciated that I received some new options to try to knock out the last of my Spring Cleaning to-do’s!

But…does it WORK?! I decided to put it to the test. Remember my issue?

CLR Review 2

If you look down in the bottom right-hand corner you can even see that the tray is nasty from all the hard water, too!

I grabbed the Foaming Action Cleaner and gave a few quick sprays.

CLR Review 3

When they say foaming they’re not kidding! And this foam is THICK, folks. It’s thick and it sticks on whatever you spray it for a good amount of time – no instant sliding off here!

After I sprayed the product, I stepped away and loaded my dishwasher. I came back and wiped everything off (I didn’t even SCRUB anything!) and here’s what I got:

Okay, that’s no joke right there. Let me put the pics side-by-side for you:

CLR Before & After 1

I was so excited with the difference that I started looking around for something else I could use the product on immediately! And then I remembered THIS:

CLR Review 6

I know. I know it’s gross. Y’all just don’t know the things I’ve tried to get this CLEAN! I literally was about to purchase a new faucet and be DONE with it!

So I grabbed the faucet, dropped it in a bowl in the sink and sprayed it down!

CLR Review 7

I left it like that and went and took a shower! HA! When I came back…

CLR Before & After 2

Now, I don’t know what YOU call that, but I call it RESULTS! Wow!!!

Next I’m gonna try the original CLR Concentrate on a rust stain that’s in our guest room toilet. That’s one more spot I’ve tried EVERYTHING on! I’ll let you know how it turns out!

I was excited to find that CLR has a few other products that I could make use of, too!

CLR Garbage Disposal
CLR Stainless Steel Cleaner
CLR Mold & Mildew Stain Remover

When you purchase a home, sometimes you inherit other people’s issues, and we have a few of those here in this house! But I’m excited about CLR! What a difference I’m seeing already! Have YOU used any of their products?

  1. We have a lot of minerals in our water that build up in all the same places at my house! I’ll have to give CLR a try to help me get rid of the build up. #HomeMattersParty
