New Additions

As we get more and more settled in our new home, I pick up things in my free time (HA! What the heck is FREE TIME?!) and add them to our house. Thought I’d start sharing those with y’all! Maybe you’ll get some good ideas, and maybe you can give me some good ideas, too!

Note: I don’t bring things into the house unless I LOVE them. I don’t see a point in being surrounded by “stuff”, much less stuff that I think is “just okay”.

1. Storage Ottomans

O1

I had been on the hunt for some of these, but I actually wanted them to be burgundy, or some kind of a pattern containing shades of burgundy and brown. I kinda wanted round ones, too, however, when I came across these at Target, and they were on clearance for just under $12 each (CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?!), it was love. My husband sighed, hung his head and said, “I’ll go get a cart.” You know those “let’s run into Target real quick on the way home” trips? Yeah. We have those, too.

Love them because…

  • Um, on CLEARANCE!
  • Extra storage space
  • Extra seating space (they really are quite comfy!)
  • Great ottomans (we pull them over to the couch at night and it feels like we have a reclining sofa!)

2. Storage Bins

B

I stumbled upon these in Walmart. (No, really…someone had knocked them off the shelf and I almost tripped over them.) I was glad I did, because they fit the theme for the office perfectly! Our office is going to be black and white, to go along with my photography business logo…

…with Coca Cola accessories featured in the decor. (Jerrod collects and loves all things Coke, so I wanted him to have somewhere to display it all!) We had bins in these cubes previously, but they were burgundy…because previously the office was pretty much right in the living room…which is browns and burgundies. These ones go along with the new decor! We have LOTS of work to do in this office – one of the main things being to get new office furniture, but, baby steps!

Love them because…

  • They’re pretty!
  • They fit those cubes nicely!
  • They go along with our decor

3. Wall Cling

C

Sorry for cell phone pic on this one, but you can still see it! We had two of these in our apartment: One said “Always Kiss Me Goodnight” and the other one said “Bless This Home”. When we moved, I was so sad, because they did not remove from the walls very well at all, but my mother-in-law told me not to worry, she would get us more! And she did! I placed this one on the door to the garage, so that every day when we leave home, we can remember that “With God all things are possible”.

Love it because…

  • It’s got sentimental value
  • It starts the day off right!

4. Frame

F

Yeah, I know it’s not us in that frame (we need a new pic!), but it was a gift from a dear friend, and it’s one of my favorites!

Love it because…

  • It makes an awesome statement!
  • It’s a great reminder!

5. Renuzit Air Fresheners

R

I have these things everywhere now, and they’re just to bring some scent without having to burn candles or spray a spray all the time. They’re more practical than anything, I think, and I buy this specific kind because they’re CHEAP! Anyone have anything else they use to keep everything smelling pretty?

Love it because…

  • I LOVE walking into a room (any room) and thinking, “It smells so good in here!”

6. Hook on the INSIDE of the front door

S

If you’ve followed the blog for a while, you remember when I used to post pics of our front door at the apartment. Of course, it was enclosed in a vestibule of sorts, so it never saw the harsh Florida wind, rain and sun. Now that we have an actual front door that’s exposed to the climate (with a pretty wreath on the front that I like so much I just want to leave it there, not change it out all the time) I was wondering what to do with all of my pretty things I used to hang on the front door with each new season/holiday. So, I decided to hang them on the INSIDE of the front door.

Love it because…

  • People have something to look at as they’re leaving just like they do when they’re coming in!
  • It brightens up the entryway
  • It coordinates with the holiday shelf (which is to the left of the door, in case you can’t see it well)

6. Salt Shaker and Pepper Grinder/Shaker

SP1

These were a gift from Jerrod’s aunt, and I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them. The salt and paper shakers we were previously using I had never really given much thought to (just the plain black and white ones you would see on restaurant tables)…until I saw these!

Love them because…

  • They look nice with our other stainless steel kitchen items
  • The pepper is fresh-ground
  • They’re heavy duty
  • They’re big

So that’s it for now! What’s new at your house?

  1. Those ottomans are an amazing find! I’m almost tempted to go see if my Target has them, but I’m afraid I’ll spend $100 before I get back out of there again. LOL! :) I also love the idea to hang wreaths on the inside of the door. What a fun idea!
