It’s Time to Organize Your Drawers! – A Guest Post!

There’s nothing I hate more than being in a hurry to get somewhere or do something…and I can’t find what I need to make it happen. UGH! It agitates the mess out of me!

I know you’ve been there – you’re already five minutes late, and you can’t find your other shoe in the pile in your closet. Or you’re in the line at the store, and suddenly the gift card you were going to use has disappeared from your wallet. Oh, and this is a good one: you’re on the phone with the insurance company, and you’ve suddenly mis-placed the document you need to get your claim paid!

My solution for these things has always been to organize, organize, organize.

So when blogger Pheeby Snow sent me a post about drawer organization, I thought it was perfect to share! Let’s check out what she has to say!

Antique drawers

In today’s developing world where everyone is rushing for somewhere, it is hard to believe that we manage to organize all our tasks and activities. Although technology is constantly developing, we often forget to organize simple activities in our home – like  cleaning procedures – as well as the organizing of other home activities. We are too busy with the organizing of our working schedules, with taking care of the children or simply with other pleasant activities, and we forget about regular home maintenance duties that are also essential. One of them being the organizing of the drawers in your home, an action which, at first look seems rather easy. In fact, it really depends on many factors and mainly on the size of the drawers as well as on your motivation and willingness to improve your organizational skills.

There exist different ways in which you can effectively organize your drawers, so here are some diverse alternatives in which you can save space in the drawers in your home!

Use suitable containers for the drawers

When trying to organize your drawers the first step is to find suitable containers to hold the small stuff in them. This will definitely facilitate you, when you need to find something tiny. Of course, this does not mean to put a lot of containers in the drawer but to put smaller objects so that an order could be set in the inside of the drawer.

Arrange your clothes by colors

We all know that with the hustle and bustle of the daily routine we are always  rushing for somewhere and we want to take our favourite T-shirt in the fastest  way. After that we leave a mess in our drawer, and of course that is the best case scenario, as there is a great chance that we won’t be able to find the T-shirt, as the clothes are not arranged properly. We suggest an interesting alternative and it is to arrange your clothes by colour. In this way you will at least know where the green T-shirt is supposed to be.

Refold everything from the drawer on a regular basis

This is a necessary condition if you want to establish an order in your drawer. You can take everything out, for instance, each month and then you can try different ways in which to manage with the arrangement. Whether by using some dividers or other method it is essential to do this regularly, as you can also find out the stained or torn clothing that you can throw away. In this way you will leave more space for your new clothes.

Ensure the pleasant and fresh smell in the drawers

Make sure that the smell in the drawers is fresh and pleasant, as it will immediately reflect to your clothes. Even if they stay there for a couple of days they will acquire the same smell, so you can find some deodorizers which to put in the drawer and to be sure  that your clothes will have a wonderful smell.

Clean the drawers

The last step for organizing of the drawer is to clean it immaculately with the appropriate products. We advise you not to underestimate this part, as the hygiene of the clothes is essential for your health. Clean the drawers regularly after you have taken out everything and wipe the dust that may have found place in between. If you don’t have enough time for that you have to find the different home cleaning solutions for them.

Then, you are ready to explore diverse and fun ways in which to organize your lovely clothes. Be creative and do not be afraid to experiment as long as you can find everything in a fast way.

Thanks so much for all these tips, Pheeby! I have to go organize some drawers now! What about you? What do you keep in your drawers that needs organizing?

  1. I want my drawers to be as organized as the ones pictured! I can dream, right? I’m pretty good at organizing. It’s keeping things organized that I have a big problem with, especially the shoes in my closet. I go from super organized to just a big fat pile of shoes in the floor. I need to heed the advice given here!

  2. Messy drawers are a pet peeve of mine. I am constantly going in all of them to make sure everything is in place. I am trying to teach my kids how to keep them cleaner.

  3. I would love to be able to have such tidy drawers. I like the idea of arranging my clothes according to the colours. I might try that. I am always loosing one sock so I have a huge bag of single socks. Any tips on what to do with these socks?

  4. I need so much help with organizing. We will be organizing a lot better after we move and these would be perfect for helping us to get back on track.

  5. My husband and I deemed this year to be the Year of Organization and Good Health in our home. We are doing well with the organization aspect. It’s my sock drawer that drives me crazy the most! I would love for it to look like that picture!!

  6. When the seasons change, that’s when we start changing out clothes and cleaning out closets. Clothes are swapped out, drawers are wiped out and made ready for the ‘new’ clothes. So much fun! (not really ha!)

  7. Great post! There is another secret to organizing, it’s minimizing. The 5 door and 4 drawers wardrobe I had just for myself I’m now (in our small house) sharing with my husband. So I have less then half of it now and I absolutely love it! So much easier to organize. Less things to get messy with.

  8. I wish I had a bigger space so that I could be more organized. My house looks like a hot mess most of the time because I don’t have anywhere to put anything. My kitchen only has 1 drawer in the whole thing.

  9. Well, let’s see…I think my drawers are calling me to come organize them. But after running around all day with appointments and kids fun, I am tired!!! These are great ways to organize!

  10. Drawer deodorizers are great. I always keep them in with my winter clothes to keep them from smelling old and musty when it’s time to pull them out.

  11. My drawers could certainly use some organization! I do have one additional problem–my cat has learned to open the drawers-empty part of them and use them as a nice resting spot!!

  12. These are some really good tips. I recently went through my drawers and organized them a bit. By the time I was done, I had a huge black bag filled with stuff I didn’t even wear anymore. I also made sure to have something scented in my drawers to keep the clothes smelling good!

  13. I love to organize but I hate laundry so as pretty as this looks I know I would not keep it. I wish I would it is so pretty and organized well. Right now I have to do mine and the kids laundry and my husband will do his own (even though he won’t take care of it, he likes to live out of laundry baskets). If I was to do something like this I would have to take care of his cloths for him and I refuse to do that. Did I mention I hate laundry. Anyways this is a great way to organize.

  14. I spent all last week cleaning and organizing. Most of our drawers stayed organized, but my 10 year old… not so much. I had to redo darn near every. single. drawer. Hmph!

  15. Those drawers sure are lovely. Can’t say mine are ever going to look as pretty, but I do like to roll our t shirts and the hubs undies to make them fit nicely in our drawers, but when it comes to the rest of the drawers in our house hold, look out they might just explode. Between me over filling them, and the kids digging, let’s just say they are a little crazy!

Hope you have a great week!

  16. Well, just reading the title of this post gave me some hart palpitations lol but after reading it I think I could save a lot of space by doing some reorganizing. I’m good about doing the colors in the closet but never thought about doing that in the drawers. That would be useful!

  17. I started working retail at 15, started in the warehouse and then worked my way up to assistant manager working my way through high school and college. I became really anal about the way clothes hung in my closet (short sleeve, long sleeve, color coded) and how my drawers looked (much like these.) People make fun of me. Now at 39, I still do it!

  18. I just reorganized my husband’s t-shirt drawers and I stood them up like in the picture. They are so much easier now to see which t-shirt you want and to keep the drawer in order.

  19. I swear I am constantly reorganizing drawers. For some reason everyone feels the need to shuffle through them just for the fun of it. At least that’s what it looks like to me.
