First of all, Happy 4th of July, everyone! I hope you have a wonderful and SAFE celebration with your family and friends!
I’ve been working on finishing up the redo of our Master Bedroom; I want to make sure it’s all done and set for the two tiny people who will be invading our house later this summer. In my mind, that’s ticking off all the things I had on my little to-do list, and making sure when I walk into the room, I feel a sense of peace and accomplishment.
So when Sadia Suhail contacted me regarding feng shui tips for a bedroom, I was intrigued! I know a tiny bit about feng shui, but nothing to write home about. I was interested to see how accurately “peaceful” our master bedroom was turning out. (News flash: looks like I need to do some work on it! HA!) Check out Sadia’s REAL feng shui tips!
Your bedroom should be a sweet haven where you can relax and recharge your batteries after a stressful day. Feng shui can help you create an amiable and tranquil atmosphere in your bedroom where you can revitalize or get romantic with your partner. Feng shui your bedroom with the following steps to improve the flow of positive energy for a harmonious and a balanced environment.
Feng shui basis for your bedroom
A bedroom is a place which doesn’t require a lot of active energy. Hence, it should be located at the back of your house away from the noisy and highly energetic areas. This will aid in laying the foundation of a peaceful and serene retreat. The bedroom shouldn’t be too large as it makes you feel less in control of your surroundings. It shouldn’t be too small either to hinder the flow of positive energy.
Keep the room clutter free to enable the free movement of energy. The furniture should be minimal and all your personal items should be well organized. Remove everything from your room that has an adverse effect on your life. Even the clutter under your bed has its own energy and can disrupt your sleep.
Keep your room airy and well-lit for a good feng shui. Your room should have good sized windows to let the fresh air come in. Furthermore, it’s a good idea to have an air purifier to keep the air clean. Make full use of natural light during the daytime. Incorporate soft and dim lighting by using lamps. Avoid harsh ceiling lights which promote the negative energy.
Use warm and peaceful colors to set up a nurturing environment. Stick with neutral and earthy tones instead of bright and stimulating ones.
Feng shui position for bed and other furniture
The central piece of furniture in the bedroom is your bed. Hence, placing it in the right spot is tremendously significant. Your bed should be placed in the commanding position of your room from where you can have a full view of the entrance and the room. The ideal location of bed would be diagonally across the door and not opposite the door, to have privacy for bed and also to avoid facing your feet towards the door which is considered inauspicious in feng shui.
Your bed should not be positioned along the toilet wall. It should not be placed under a beam which can give you a feeling of getting compressed. Avoid having a slanted or low ceiling in your bedroom.
Your bed should have a sturdy frame to support you. The mattress should be comfortable, covered with high-quality bed linens. Your bed’s headboard should be placed against a wall and not the window. Your bed should be effortlessly accessible from both sides. There should be an equal and balanced source of energies on both sides such as lamps on side tables.
Avoid placing big furniture items such as a huge book-shelf or a large dresser. Extra chairs should be placed in appropriate places to have enough space for the flow of positive energy. Keep all the distractions like TV, laptop, or exercise equipment out of your bedroom. A bedroom is a place to relax and to connect with your partner, and these electronic devices are a hindrance for a good feng shui.
Feng shui decor tips
Decorate your bedroom with lovely and delightful art pieces that promote happy and sensual energy. Place the pictures with your loved ones to boost intimacy and healthy relationship with your partner.
Mirrors should be kept away from your bedroom. Feng shui experts believe that mirrors invite worries, restlessness and unwanted interference from people in your life. Moreover, they activate too much energy which is not good for a calm environment. If you still want to place them in your bedroom, make sure they are not directly in front of the bed.
You can place beautiful natural plants and fresh flowers in empty corners. Make sure the leaves are not spiky or poisonous. Pamper yourself with magnificent things that make you feel good like a plush rug, luxurious bedding, or nice scented candles.

Thanks so much, Sadia! It’s pretty clear that I have some work left to do on our Master Bedroom – I’d better get to it before the twins arrive, right?!
