It’s a sad and dreary day here in Central Florida (it hasn’t stopped raining yet!), but, since I’ve had so many questions on the topic of late, I wanted to share a little preggo update with everyone!
Yes, we are having TWO GIRLS! I think we’re still at the 50% thrilled 50% terrified levels, but we’re getting used to the idea!
We actually found out early when we went in for a routine ultrasound (I get LOTS of those since we’re having twins) and they asked us if we wanted to know the sexes of the babies. Without hesitation, my sweet husband gave a resounding YES, and I thought, well, there goes our gender reveal party! He was so excited to find out, I couldn’t say no!
Oh, and don’t let his face in the pic above fool you – girls are EXACTLY what he wanted. Something about how much girls always make over their daddies…crazy man.
So here are the most common questions I’m getting these days:
How are you feeling?
Pregnant. I’m feeling pregnant! But at 19 weeks, I’m feeling better than I did in the first trimester, for sure! Still fighting some nausea on a daily basis, but it’s easier to fight when I’m not exhausted all day long. And my energy levels have been MUCH better, so I’m very thankful for that!
Any special cravings?
Right now my two favorite things are lemonade and Sour Patch Kids candy. Which totally tells me my body is not my own, because I never cared for either before. In fact, all the things I loved before (everything creamy and sweet) I now can’t stand, and the things I didn’t care for before (things that were more sour and tart and salty) I now adore. Definitely a switch for me!
How’s Your Weight Gain?
I actually lost 20 pounds in the first trimester due to the morning…errr…all-day sickness. At this point, I’ve only gained back 3 of those 20 pounds, so I’m pretty proud of myself! Of course, I’m still only eating very small amounts – I feel like my stomach is about a quarter of the size it was before. It’s probably just squished between the girls!
How about heartburn?
Yes, there’s been a bit of that, for sure. Normally at night. The Tums work for me for the heartburn, but make me nauseous (what’s up with that?!) so I use them only when I just can’t handle the heartburn. Mostly I just drink tons of ice water to try to make it go away.
When are you due?
My due date is September 26, but they’re shooting to take them about 5 weeks early, so we’re looking at around August 22. So I’m already half-way done, when you look at it like that! I gotta get on the ball!
What has been your biggest stress so far?
Oh my goodness, without a doubt, the registries. Now, I worked my way through college as a nanny for triplet boys and their baby brother (who was 2 weeks old when I first started working with them) so I do have quite a bit of baby and kiddo knowledge. However…it’s hard to remember! The research on just bottles alone has been overwhelming! And there’s so much stuff that the babies might be picky about (although we’re going to try to keep them as low-maintenance as humanly possible) that some things it’s hard to stock up on! Plus, some of this baby stuff is EXPENSIVE! My goodness! I don’t want people looking at our registries and thinking, “Gee whiz, they just want the world, don’t they?!” If anyone has any tips for me on registries, I would LOVE to hear them!
Can you feel the babies yet?
Nope, not at all. It’s the weirdest thing to watch them moving on the monitors and not be able to feel them, but my medical peeps tell me it will be soon! I’ve THOUGHT I’ve felt something a few times this week, but I’m not for sure it wasn’t just gas! HA!
Are you emotional?
HAHAHAHAHA! Um, YES! My poor husband. We’ll be sitting in the living room watching TV at the end of the day, and I will just burst into tears over a commercial. He just pats my leg, kisses my cheek and asks if I want some ice cream. He’s the best! I’ve tried really hard to be aware of my emotions and not get too crazy…but I will admit that I’ve definitely failed a few times!
What will you name the girls?
That, my friends, is a surprise for everyone once they are born. We are telling no one until they have arrived! We wanted to have a little secret just between the two of us!
And there ya have it! Back to regularly scheduled programming tomorrow!
